We all make mistakes.

I quickly realized bourbon and tonearm operation does not go hand-in-hand

Dropping the needle at platter speed of 45rpm, the stylus landed and pushed out resting on the platters edge, the speakers yelled at me, “Fool”, - no damage affecting sound quality - I felt I got lucky!

Carelessly grabbing a record from the cleaner it slipped out my hands, hitting my guitar, it scratched the last song on side B of a Kenny Burnell Tone Poets album.

Take away: No alcohol operating a turntable, and firmly squeeze grab an album with your palms when handling records!

Anyone else care to mention some of your blunders?

Is this a digital is better than analog thread? You sure sound like it! [emoji1787]

Consider yourself lucky that it was the album and not the cartridge. I had a Clearaudio Concerto that I mishandled and sent to an early grave.

AUI (Audioing Under the Influence) can be dangerous. If drinking you should always have a designated Audioer. :D

Funny! Just want to hear the experiences we all have endured, or heck even still do.

yep, you got lucky. Of note, I always have my preamp muted until I know the stylus is 'in the groove'.

I once killed a Bill Frisell record, dropping the vinyl while trying to turn it. One side scratched when it slid down the rack tumbling down.

No alcohol involved, unfortunately [emoji3].

You know how they say you should clean even a new album to remove debris? I bought my first expensive 45 rpm LP, I did play it a couple times and it sounded great, nice and quiet, SQ was better than I've heard from an LP. So I cleaned it on my VPI 16.5 and I don't know what I did wrong but next play I heard clicks. I believe it is static. I did the procedure again but left it a bit damp. Next play was improved but still not back to perfect.

So I guess when it sounds good leave it alone until it don't

I have dropped an album, :) but thank God no damage done.

The absolute worse I remember was back in the day when my ex was dusting and broke the stylus off my Grace Ruby cartridge. Man I miss that cartridge. I wish Grace was still around :).

Ok, add me to the be careful when mixing vinyl and certain substances.... I decided, like an idiot, to change stylus from my black to the bronze after a decent amount. Well the black came away with a broken stylus :(... thank God the bronze was not involved in the incident. So at least I have the use of my table....

[emoji51] I ruined two tracks from a pristine copy of Abbey Road when I thought that I was sober enough to lift the tonearm with my hand without using the tonearm lift. [emoji854]
