Acoustic Sounds is having a sale on the 45 rpm Blue Note reissues. IIRC they were originally $50 and are now on sale for $30! Miss at your own risk!

yup, I've lined Chad's pockets pretty well over the last month. Did anyone catch his 15% off sale on all AP titles a few weeks ago?? that was a score.

I think I've paid for at least one of those record presses. :)

Help me make a shopping list of your recommended titles if possible, Myles!

All 43 are good but these are some fave titles:

*Herbie Hancock: Maiden Voyage
*Freddie Hubbard: Hub Tones
Grant Green: Idle Moments
*Lee Morgan: Sidewinder
Grant Green: Grandstand
Jackie McClean: Capuchin Swing
*Jackie McClean: New Soil
Jackie McClean: Jackie's Bag
Kenny Burrell: 5 Spot
Lee Morgan: Lee Way
*Hank Mobley: A Caddy for Daddy

*Highest recommendation.

Wow!

I just saved tons of money without even switching to Geico.

Thanks Myles, I have the five of your highest recommended titles coming in 2 - 5 days with free shipping to booth.

Recently got Jimmy Smith/ chicken shack and am looking to pick up a few more. After reading your review (New Soil) "it appears that these master tapes have stood the test of time far better than many others...", which of the 43 would you say most show their age?

I definitely have.

I paid full price for the subscription set. Now I believe there are a few of these that snuck in that weren't part of the subscription catalogue...?

I was referring to in that piece other recordings/labels such as the Tony Bennett/Bill Evans, Coltrane at the Half Note, Waltz for Debby as tapes that had issues. In particular the first two where there are drop outs (numerous on the Coltrane) and that the WFD tape isn't in the best of shape and Paul Stubblebine had to work especially hard to get that title to market.

The problems with storage and care (or lack of) of the master tapes (like the Tull master that was found in Anderson's garage), theft of the masters, and loss of many oh so precious masters in a huge fire several years ago has been discussed quite a bit.

I think in the case of the BN reissues, the tapes with issues were weeded out beforehand. But any company nowadays has to do their due diligence and check the master tapes before even announcing their release. To wit, the Tape Project being embarrassed and having to reissue the Linda Ronstadt tape from a safety because the master was missing.
