Prompted by a discussion on that "other" forum, several people emailed and took the company up on the offer of Free Samples of the Black Discus.

Mad Scientist Audio :: Home

Nobody knows or understands just exactly what these are supposed to or actually doing but I do think I hear a positive effect with the 2 pucks placed on the + taps off the Amp as one of the placement suggestions.

Anyone here try this out or have any insight as to what they may be doing? I got clearer more defined bass and highs with them in place on the amp. Seems pretty clear of a change just taking them off and putting them back.

I took them up on their offer.....tried them in numerous places but they were a no go. I spent a couple of weeks with them in and out of the system, also in multiple locations with the same music through out the comparison......unfortunately there were no difference in or out of the system. I just chalk it up to one of the YMMV audio things :)

Thanks Jeff. Maybe it has to do with the overall quality of the system to start with, or maybe cable construction.....or maybe my system is just sounding real good lately due to all the snow piled up.

I'm gonna play around some more. I am not fully convinced but there were two of us listening and only I knew when they were removed and replaced.

I actually have a pair to try...Haven't noticed anything..did yours come with numbers on them ? Almost like a tube rating? Mine said 3400/3500

I tried these with no discernable difference.

I just wonder...are these just small disks of ferrite ? They look like they could be ground up ferrite in a polymere penut butter cup ? LOL
