Big 7 vs Chord DAVE

I have a WE 422A for rectifier, and primarily use Takatsuki 300B for output. I'm tempted to try PX4.

I have not heard the PX 25, but my buddy speaks highly of it. His ranking is Lampi anniv mesh 45 globe, Px25 and then Kr242/ EML solid plate 45 globe. He has the Px4 but hadn't used them in so long, he forgot. He is not a 300b lover, but was pleased with the Elrogs till they died.

When I run the Dave direct with no preamp the SQ takes a big hit IMHO. It comes alive when I use as Dac only, at least in my system.

I don't want to focus too much on what I'm sure was a relatively minor comment from dguitarnut, but could you compare the midrange of DAVE vs BADA Reference?

DAVE and BADA are completely different presentations, each presentation has its own fans. DAVE has a much more liquid, lush, and richer midrange. It also has more presence. If what has been mentioned here itches your curiosity, you should definitely hear it, especially if you can get one into your system. What speakers are you using, out of curiosity?
