I’ll admit I got this idea from another forum, but it intrigued me enough to ask here: Who has provided the best and worst packaging among all the audio and video companies you have dealt with over the years? For me...

Best:
SRA- Wooden crates and well-packed inside.
Oppo- They could teach some very high-end companies a few things about packaging (among other things).

Worst:
None stand out, but there are several that should up their game, especially on the high end.

Best:
Luxman
Esoteric
MSB
ARC
MAGICO (heavy tools required!)

Worst:
Old Lampizator (sorry, love the guys, but the Polish foam puzzle - see below - is a bit much). New Lampi DAC’s with flight cases is 10 times better!

Love the flight cases D’Agostino and LampizatOr now use.

At its price point, Bel Canto is outstanding. Double boxed, high quality cutout foams with plenty of space in all directions. Knock on wood, but I've been dealing with Bel Canto for many years and I haven't seen one yet with shipping damage. Hegel is excellent as well with double boxing and a plastic covering around the outer box, high quality cutout foams. I've seen some of the Hegels take a decent beating by shipping companies, but the products have been unharmed. However, over the years, most of the worst packaging I've seen has been from speaker brands.

Magico crate with built in ramp is pretty creative. Bolts lock in the speakers making them very secure.

Gryphon collapsible crate is also a nice touch. Two side latches make it an easy 2 man carry job. Once collapsed it’s an easy solo job.

Exceptional: D’Agostino, Wilson Audio, HRS, Nordost Reference, McIntosh, Oppo

So so; JL

Best in speakers:
Wilson Audio, Avalon, Magico - basicly all speakers that come in crates

Worst in speakers:
Magico Q3 single crate - a huge SINGLE wooden crate (housing BOTH speakers), weighting 600lbs (that is right SIX HUNDRED lbs - good luck trying to move that up the stairs!); thankfully they have abandoned this idea with the new M3, which has one of the best and most innovative crates in the biz
Vandersteen - their $70k model 7 comes in a flimsy carton box ... they should really learn how an expensive speaker should be boxed from Wilson, Avalon, Magico etc.
many european brands - B&W, Focal, KEF, etc - that put their expensive models in cartons

Best in electronics:
Trinity - super cool flight case
old Classe Omega series - a flight case
all major Japanese brands (Accuphase, Esoteric, Luxman etc) - top carton designs

Worst in electronics:
old (3+ years old) Lampizator boxes - they started using flightcases 2 or 3 years ago, those are great
McIntosh - huge (double) boxes, that cannot be put on the side or upside down; a poor box design in my book
