Best High Efficiency Speaker for the Money ?

CD

I don't know if anybody on this forum owns them, but there are many on AK that do. If I wanted to do HE and loud I would prefer the Tektons over the K-Horns for appearance alone in a new house. Plus I never was attracted to the Klipsch sound profile. As most of the Tektons are over well over 90 db efficiency you could the Rachel with almost all of them. The "Part-Time Audiophile" Andrew Robinson had a pair as his main speaker for awhile and has heard most of the rest of the line. Shoot him an e-mail and talk about them.

Does anyone actually own Tektons? I'm thinking of a little pair of Mini Lore Monitors; and either a Rachel...or something sweet from Finale.

I owned a pair of Lores for about a year. I loved those speakers and I think they are an outstanding value. I only moved them down the road since they were residing in my 2nd system and I needed to help fund a new amp for my main rig. This what I based my suggestion on.

For the record, I also agree that the Pendragons and a Line Magnetic integrated would be an incredible combo for the money.

I'm almost 100% sure that I will own another pair of Tektons, but this time I'll do some nice veneer instead of the basic black that mine were.

I ran them with everything from 300B SET monos, to a Rega Brio-R, to my Job 225 and they sounded awesome with all of them.

I'm not going to write a long review here, but I agree with most of what you read out on the interwebz, but if you have specific questions I'll do my best to answer them.

i like these too, with great prices and a 30 day money back if you dont like them deal, i figure why not try out a pair. just not sure which to try out yet.

Steve, I was reading some of the reviews, they just loved these speakers. And the price is right for sure.

Ok, I know some folks hate them and some folks love them, but what about Paradigm. The Studio series in particular. They are very expensive to me personally, but I drive a pair of Studio V5 myself and love them. They are extremely efficient. Took me forever to get them, but I got them about 2 years ago. It was hard plunking down that amount of scratch, but it's one of the best things I ever did for my system especially compared to the speakers I was using for 23 years prior.
I did not like the Signature series though as I personally found them too forward and edgy, but that's my ears. I know some folks say that about Paradigm speakers in general, but that's usually because they have only heard the Signatures and did not try the Studio line, rather different sounds mostly due to the tweeter I think as both the sigs and studios are equally efficient. Of course everyone's ears are different so who knows. Ironically the Signatures are much higher priced than the Studios, but to my ears the Studios sounded balanced and sweet compared to the Sigs. At any rate, I throw Paradigm on the table as one to look into if you want.

I'm late to the dance, but I'll vote for the Tekton Pendragon as well. Fits all your parameters. I've only owned the M-Lore, but if the Pendragon is voiced as well as this little entry level offering, you're in business. I believe there are a couple of versions of the Pendragon... plus the smaller Enzo might be worth a look as well. For the record, the M-Lore was comfortable playing all genres and fell more into music lover category....yet had no trouble revealing component or cable changes.

Hi Mick, welcome :)

Has anyone suggested the Spatial speakers yet? I believe they start at $2,000 USD/pr with Turbo upgrades (better parts) for $500. I have never heard them but the show reports (and friends I trust) indicate these speakers are pretty awesome. There's a whole Spatial speakers subforum that you can read. I believe sensitivity is 100 dB/w/m, though I don't know what the phase angle and minimum impedance is like. I ordered a pair each of the M1 and M2 (both turbos) and am looking forward to checking them out

Mark, If you get a chance to hear the DeVore O/96 or O/93 you will be surprised.

EDIT : Sorry I missed your budget note.

Not sure if this qualify but it sounds brilliant with single ended tube :)

im very interested in these speakers. seem to be right up my alley. but im not sure if its worth it for the 15" woofers as im a little shy of big bass. it annoys me after awhile.but if the big ones are a way better speaker that makes it worth a try. i will be looking forward to yur thoughts about both of these. are you getting the turbos in both sizes?

hi Steve, Yes I'm getting both in turbo.

Vintage four-way Technics SB series G710, 720, 910, 920, high efficiency 96..98 dB/W/m, large woofers - excellent bass reproduction, wide dispersion angle of the tweeter.

Due to the age need replacement of acoustic foam insulation inside cabinet and re-capping.

Adrian do you have a link. All I found on Spatial speakers were these and they start at $9,000 Lumina ? SPATIAL AUDIO

Chris - the Spatial speakers start at less than $2000 and go up from there to the Spatial Statement at $15,000. I'm being told that the Spatial Hologram M1 Turbo ($4000) is really really good for the money.

Hi Steve, the speakers in question are open baffle designs. There are no boxes other than a flat baffle that the drivers are mounted on. This means the bass will not be as rich or meaty as a "normal" box speaker. The bass might go as low as the specifications suggest, but without the weight of a box speaker. Indeed, some listeners may find the bass lightweight in character. Positioning the distance from the wall to the speaker may also be a little more critical as bass frequencies will cancel in an open baffle design.

The trade off should be a very open sounding speaker, no boxy colorations, and lower cost since there is no box to pay for. Also, the back of the speaker will look unfinished in comparison.

Google Spatial speakers. You will find a lot of show reports about them. Almost all the comments are very positive; indeed some are outright raves. Note that I have not heard them myself, but based on the reports, and forum exchanges (see the Spatial subforum for the threads), I am pretty confident the M1 and M2 speakers will be great buys for many. Lallygagger, and fellow AS member, owns a pair and absolutely loves them. Mike owns the Spatial Statements and also seems to like them very much
