Best folder structure strategy and album cover art for the Lumin

I recently purchased an S1 and a Synology NAS. Thanks to Mike's 'Setting Up a Lumin Network Music Player' post, I've begun to copy my music to the NAS. I started to do so and noticed that some album art doesn't appear. I use the MusicShifter service to rip many of my Redbok CDs to a DVD (approx 14 CDs to a DVD).

The MusicShifter DVD contains a folder structure such as the below:
ARTIST / ALBUM / SONGS.
So if I give MusicShifter 14 Beatles CDs they return a DVD was follows:
BEATLES/Album 1/Songs 1 - n
BEATLES/Album 2/Songs 1 - n
BEATLES/Album 3/Songs 1 - n
BEATLES/Album n/Songs 1 - n
Contained in each Album level folder is a JPG file which is the album art cover.

This method works well for the Aurender as the Aurender looks for either a JPG or PDF file in at the album folder level to use for album art. Note, unlike the Lumin, the Aurender app doesn't show album art at the song level only at the album level.
I'm guessing the reason my album art isn't showing up on the Lumin app is that the Lumin app expects the album art to be embedded (tagged) at the song level. Is this assumption correct?

Regarding my HDTracks downloads, some downloads show the album art while others don't.
I'm guessing HDTracks isn't consistently providing songs with the album art embedded in all songs. Does anyone else have a similar experience with HDTracks downloads?

Lastly, is there a recommenced folder structure I should use on the NAS to store my music? I prefer to use the above mentioned structure of: ARTIST/ALBUM/SONGS since artist names can vary over time. This method allows me to make sure the 50+ variations of Santana's artist names are all in a Santana folder. This structure works well on the Aurender. Is there any downside to this folder structure with the Lumin?

Thanks in advance for the support.

Thanks. Does MinimServer use the album art search order for all music files or just DSD files?

If you're not already using MinimServer, please install it.

For non-embedded album art, try renaming it as folder.jpg and rescan the music library.

Thanks Peter. I installed Jaa and MinimServer on my NAS and made sure there was a folder called folder.jpg that contained the album art. I re-scanned the music folder with MinimServer and reloaded my music library with the Lumin iPad app. Still, no album art for some of my albums.

It's odd as some of my albums where the album art displays correctly doesn't have a file called folder.jpg. Instead there is a file called albumname.pdf. Perhaps the album art is embedded in the songs in the album.

Any thoughts for next steps?

Thx,

I presume that was a typo, but just to be clear, the album art file should be named as folder.jpg, placed inside the same folder (not in a sub-folder) along with your tracks of the same album.

If you're sure you've done that correctly, the next step is: Copy one music file and one folder.jpg to one folder (i.e. two files inside one folder) in a FAT32-format USB flash drive, then plug it into your Lumin player. Then in Lumin app, choose the Lumin USB Music Server, see if the album art appears.

Peter,

Copying a song and the folder.jpg files to a USB was a great suggestion. That worked as the album art was correctly displayed on he Lumin iPad app at the folder and song level.

Going back to my Synology NAS testing where the album art isn't displaying for some albums, I did not install MinimWatch. However, after I copied the folder.jpg file to the album folder of the NAS, I re-scanned the music library from the MinimServer interface but still no album art. In MinimWatch needed even if I re-scan the NAS music library manually from the MinimServer interface?

Peter,

I may have accidentally found the issue. Instead of selecting the NAS as the Music Library to connect to from my iPad, I connected to the MinimServer and all my album art is working. Am I supposed to use the MinimServer as the Music Library to connect the iPad app to?

Thx,

Yes, this is required. I'm glad it works for you.

To avoid confusion, you may disable the Synology built-in media server.
