James, when the BDP-1 plays an ALAC/FLAC file does it uncompress the file and put it into memory, and then play the uncompressed file from memory? Or does it play the file and uncompress it as it plays?

Thanks.

I don't know the answer to your question but why worry about it - I uncompress all of my FLAC files and save them that way before feeding them to my BDP-2.

Hi Bud

The BDP has 2 buffers – one at the input and one on the output.

The input buffer is 2K and the output buffer is whatever free memory is available to it.

BDP-1 has a few MB of memory and the BDP-2 has a few hundred MB’s of memory available.

The music starts to play when the input buffer is ½ full and is a function of how MPD operates.

In simpler terms the motherboard in the BDP will uncompress the file and forward it to the soundcard.

James,

I currently use Logitech Touch players in my house but am considering an upgrade to the BDP-2 for my main 2 channel system. Reading the materials, if I enable squeezelite on the BDP-2, will it:

1) Synch with the Touch players for a whole home system

2) Support ickStream plug-in in order to have access to Tidal streaming?

Thanks,

Bruce
