Ayre MX-R

Prices Going Up March 15
At Ayre we always offer our customers the best possible value that we can afford to give. Many of you can attest to how low our prices are compared to the performance our products deliver. Unfortunately, when push comes to shove, and part prices increase, for the eighth time, we have to respond.
But we can't just change prices without a grace period for you, our loyal base of excited music freaks.
So, in accordance with behaving in the same way we would like to be treated if we were our own customers, we would like to let you know that you have until March 14, 2015 to order product before prices go up.
Effective March 15th, a few of our legacy products will increase in price by between 5-30%. For specific product price changes, please contact your local Ayre dealer.
We're certain that even after this necessary price increase, you'll still find our gear to be well worth the money.
Thanks from all of us at Ayre, have a wonderful Spring!

Who made this statement?
"I'm not considering Ayre anymore":(

This suggests it is not you.

Did their costs increase 30% after already going up a lot for the 20 upgrade or is this a matter of not feeling they are spoken in the breath as the big boys unless they charge the most?

I don't get it.

Ayre was such a great value. Now...???

The email from ayre said from 5% to 30% it does not say which are 5 and which are 30 and not until March 15th.
As I am in Canada with the falling Canadian dollar to the USA dollar it will be worse maybe another 20 to 30 % the dollar has nothing to do with ayre just the way it is. The 5-30% really depends on what goes up 30% if it is the lower priced stuff not as bad. A MXR20 or KXR20 could be lot best to ask Ayre.

Until the new price list comes out - who knows?

Reading between the lines - the newer products that have been priced in the last year or less will have the small increases if at all, and the products that haven't changed prices in the last 6 years will have the larger increases.

Ayre in their history has never taken their customer for granted. In fact, just the fact that they are giving people almost months heads up, is pretty dang good business.

Yep
Feels like the R products will go up least and the 5 series will go up the most...still a value

my guess that the new 20 series stuff is 5% and the older stuff is more towards 30%. should be interesting.

Last I heard the Rs are not going up. The other lines are going up. They gave plenty of warning so get those Gold Cards out. March 15th will be here soon.

I just ordered the KXR Twenty and MXR Twenty. The KXR Twenty came in last Friday. It replaced a non-20 KX-5. What a big jump in sound. For me, it was a new purchase and not an upgrade, but the new units and upgrades are the same.

Eagerly anticipating the arrival of the MXR Twenties.

Congrats Jax! Can you describe the improvements in sound?

Still in burn in period, but so far:

Vocals smoother
Instruments sound more like the real thing
harp and Woodwinds sound really in the listenmg I've done so far.
choral works: I can better make out the imdividual singers

just a big Wow, I've wanted the KXR for years and I had the ability to bite the bullet.

I'm mainly listening to 176/24 download from my QB-9DSD DAC.

Unusually, I'm using Shunyata. I don't find many using Shunyata with Ayre but I love the sound. I picked up two Sigma Analog power cords for my KXR and QB9. I ordered two high current Sigmas with the MXR's. The Shunyata brings jet black backgrounds, and detail. Music comes out of a black vacuum.

Wondering what the MXR20's have in store. I should have them in a week or two. Coming from a non-20 VX-5. Before that I had the V-5xe. My speakers are Wilson Alexias, which are a tough load.

I could be wrong but wouldn't Sigma digital power cord be better suited for QB9?

I've heard folks prefer the Analog. But I may try the digital for comparison.

I shipped out three MXR amps on February 13th and Ayre turned around the upgrades and got back to me last night. Very pleased with their timing. I also am moving the current VX5 which powers the surrounds to a vx5 twenty The old vx5 is moving to the bedroom system

i set up everything today and look forward to listening tomorrow....would love to start tonight but my wife has made other plans for me. The MXR power Alexia's for LR through a KXR 20 I upgraded last summer. The third MXR powers a mezzo. I have had the original MXR for 3 years and look forward to what the upgrade will bring. I was very impressed with the preamp upgrade and hope for more of the same. Will start a new thread sharing my thought later this week

Looking forward to your thoughts! My KXR20 is improving even more, aftef a week of break in. With luck, my MXR20's will be here next weekend. I hope the Ayre price increase isn't resulting in a surge of last minute orders at the factory.

KXR improvements: the soundstage is getting wider and deeper. Bass is more articulate. Right now, my Alexias are still being driven by a non-20 VX-5.

Oh, my

the MX-R Twenties arrived last Monday. Had them burning all weekend. They are probably still burning in. My new power cables for them aren't in yet - I ordered two Shunyata Sigma HC PC's for them. Using some Shunyata Venom 3's I had laying around.

The MX-R's are impressing me, deeply. Yes, the bass is deeper. It also has better pitch and tonality, it's not just more "low" sounds. I hear more of a soundstage than I did with my VX-5. Huge wow.

I will post more impressions when the power cables arrive, and I have some burn in time.

Great news! Thanks for the update. I can't wait for more .... I am afraid to hear the new Twenty combo.
