Ayon gear. I remember hearing it at RMAF and found it a little noisy. But seriously, has anyone else seen a more pimped out brand?

Really nice looking gear. The speakers are also way cool looking, but I don't recall seeing them in any of the show reports or anywhere until checking their site.

I just see their gear whored out on Audiogon regularly. I'm sure it's decent - but geez....

I know Peter B. really liked the sound of the amps. Not cheap though at what ~$65k or so for the monoblocks? Amps didn't sound too bad on the Scaenas mid and top end at Axpona. Would be interesting to see his thoughts in light of what he's heard since.

Yes - beautiful gear - but the constant bombardment of ads for new Ayon gear on Audiogon just cheapens the brand IMO.

Perhaps there's an inverse relationship between ads and number of dealers?

You have to love the look of those output tubes! Talk about a '30s scientific lab Frankenstein type look. Think Thrax uses the same OT too.

Could be. It just seems to be a regular thing.

The specs on those Blackeys look good, any idea on cost? I really wish MFG sites would at least post a List Price so people can get an idea. It is a total dis-service if one has to hunt, peck, and ask around when the MFG can just be up front with the List Prices.

Disclaimer, a friend of mine was a dealer for them. Due to that fact, I have plenty of experience with their line from a few years ago until last year.

The Ayon Crossfire is my dream amp. Great transparency, holography...and incredible bass control for a SET amp.

With that said, I've heard one noisy amp from them, otherwise every piece of gear was dead silent. It could have easily been a bad tube, etc...no idea.

The only thing I didn't like about the brand was that their CDP voicing was all over the place. Their lower models were quite detailed and their TOTL model was vastly in the other direction.

I had Ayon on my radar a while back but was advised they had reliability issues by the importer & a few dealers so never went there.

I could buy a lot of 60's muscle cars for what 3 or 4 of these amps cost.

I guess that answers my question on pricing :) I guess the HE industry does not put pricing on their site for several reasons.
1- to weed out the little guy like me who can't afford it even if I did know the price ( If you have to ask, you cannot afford it)
2- no 2 people actually pay the same price because it's all how you can haggle with the dealers

Isn't this the truth. To me, all the crazy pricing discounts really makes the whole audio world a joke. When people can choose to pay whatever they want to it makes the gear worthless.

Of course I guess that's a good thing for buyers, but not so much for sellers...

Well said Doug, well said.

they look so blinged out in person. there has been question as to where they are actually built- can't remember if that ever was determined.

i was looking at the Triton a few years back-- around 8k. now the Triton "III" is 14k. um, ok.

I heard them at RMAF also and they were superb. Best sound at the show in my opinion. I also think they are gorgeous.

I see Ayon everywhere. Stereophile, TAS, Stereomojo, Enjoy The Music, Audiogon, Positive Feedback, everywhere - I think its great to see a successful high end audio company.

Perhaps they have a large ad budget - They are everywhere. TAS, Stereophile, Posiitve Feedback, you name it. It has been as such for years.

Yes, I was at Axpona in the Ayon Scaena room. I thought to was the best the Scaena's sounded at any show, with the Ayon's.

At CES John Atkinson wrote about the Scaena's
-AMR Amps, "The sound in this room was impressively clean and neutral, with precise imaging. But playing my recording of pianist Hyperion Knight performing orchestral arrangements of the Gershwin Preludes for piano, I was puzzled not to hear as much hall ambience as I was expecting."
I agree.
