I have been thinking about upgrading my cdp since I find my Oppo BDP-95 to be a little lean sounding compared to my Stax Quattro II but the Stax, though warmer sounding, is not quite as detailed. I have found an Ayon CD 5 for sale in very nice shape. It is even within driving distance so I can audition it and if I buy it, not worry about shipping.
Does anyone have direct experience with this player? I would like to still use my Jeff Rowland Consummate preamp as I have many sources. Are there any reliability issues? I like a warmer sound that is still detailed. My amps are Jeff Rowland model 5 or Ray Lumley M100 tube monoblocks and Acoustat 2+2 speakers. Is it crazy to spend $$$ on a used CDP? I still have about 300 cd's and I am looking for more as the price for used ones has dropped quite a bit.
