I heard this morning they are including car audio show this coming year, is this true? that will suck IMO if true

Well, I know the show that came up with that idea first. 🤔

Florida Audio Expo will be bringing in the Car Audio association focused on quality car audio (not boom boom) in February.

Awesome job thinking outside the box, Mike.

Everyone whines that the shows need a wider audience, and then when they get a wider audience to help grow hifi audio they whine some more.

I am very familiar with IASCA - they are a car audio organization that is heavily steeped in high quality car audio, and were not born out of the "boom boom" crowd.

Hopefully the dying shows (not the Florida show) do more like this to attract a new crowd rather than the snobby audiophiles trying to keep people out - and killing hifi audio in the process.

I wonder what this would look like, ie. booths in an area like Head-fi or take place in the parking lot or something else?

I think it's a good argument that a good portion would be same crowd.

There are some mind blowing car audio these days, especially using DSP which makes the sound stage in front of you like a home stereo despite speaker location. It's definitely not all about the boom for high end car audio. Mass market maybe but if they attend the show a chance to educate in all areas.

Back in the late 80's early 90's I attended some and even got to judge an IASCA event. Car audio has fallen off since then for some reason. I still have my James Newton Howard & Friends CD :)

A friend had a rally car decked out with Dynaudio components and high current amps, forgot the name, nothing standard, the system was incredible. Sorry for rambling but someone mentioned car audio and nostalgia kicked in, LOL

Car audio was my first introduction to what eventually led me to my love for high end home audio.
When I was 16 in high school I started working at a store installing and selling mobile audio.
Eventually I became an IASCA judge and was involved with selling and designing award winning vehicles.
There are many others with similar influences that ignited their passion for home audio. One that comes to mind is the reviewer Greg Weaver as he judged IASCA competitions and loved high end car audio.

Sound quality focused car audio is very similar to the goals we strive for in our home systems. Unfortunately working on vehicles is a bit more challenging than it used to be given the complexity of integration that is now required. Just like everything else a much higher level of tech skills are necessary as well as a higher skill level to achieve quality integration.

Unfortunately many have a negative association with aftermarket car audio and that is understandable. But the same can be said for high end 2-channel, but in a different way.
Many would be blown away with what a killer SQ focused system in a vehicle can achieve, but sadly most will never experience what is possible.

I have no knowledge on what will be shown at the upcoming events, but to this day I know where my love and passion for amazing music reproduction began!

The car audio idea came from the Florida Audio Expo team. We will be the first to showcase with the car audio sound quality group in February.

You know, all we heard for years was how we needed to expand the base for two channel audio.

For years we heard whining that it was the “same old faces.” Nobody, and I mean nobody was doing Jack sh!t about it. They kept doing the same old thing over and over again, hoping for a different result.

When we came along, this was our goal: a successful show that expanded the base. Find the music lovers and show them how great two channel audio in their home came be. So what have we done? Lots of creative ideas to bring in new blood to find: music lovers. Period. From radio ads on jazz and classical music stations to sponsoring small music venues across the state to attending record fairs and so much more. This was another idea. Find the music lovers and expand the base of two channel audio.

“Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery…”

well, hopefully it works out. I just know that the car audio folks do nothing but make fun of 2 channel home audio, I was in Birmingham this weekend for a car audio event, the best sounding cars in the US and it was nothing but wise cracks from that crowd, an of course there cars are better sounding than the very best home systems, blah blah blah

but I am all for expanding the the high end audio base

I really dont see an issue , hell add AV and make it a mini CES :)

As to car systems i can believe done right it will better 60% of current home audio presentations, plenty lateral products in audio today only thing consistently going up is the prices..

The real issue in adding car audio to a HiFi show is the separation needed to isolate their rowdiness from the rest of the show , the Din created by the cars being demoed will filter across into the regular rooms if too close ..

Regards

No one answered what the car audio display would look like. Would they rent a room and use a display? Hope not. Would this be separate in the parking lot as a car show should be? or, something else?

Several manufacturers used to have their own vehicles. I think Rockford used to have a trailer. Alpine had the Lamborghini. Kicker had a truck.

You guys may not be aware Mike is building up to adding planes in the future eventually expanding to a hotel with a nearby Hanger with the cars and planes on display over there ..!

Think of Cavalino ...... :)

I like the sounds of that!

Axpona is already overcrowded. If this brings in another entirely distinct group of people the convention center is going to burst at the seams. The elevator wait is already way too long.

These shows should be mindful of the visitor experience. Adding people doesn't make it more enjoyable for those who have been supporting the show for years.

On the other, hand if the cars are outside as Mike is doing it may relieve some of the inside congestion. Or, spread it out.
