Axpona 2019 Official Pics & Commentary Thread

Those Stenheims look great - hope they sound good.

My buddy Danny is manning that room - definitely analog friendly :)

Yup. He’s buzzing around. Speakers sound good.

AMAZING as always. Just so natural and effortless. A wall of sound. Close your eyes and you are transformed to the performance.

Hi Mike

Thanks for you response but - no they're not - referring to your post no65 - Ayon Audio with Lumin White speakers.

Oh sorry. Ha! They sounded pretty good. Not sure of price.

T+A CD player, Chord DAVE DAC and D’Ag electronics.

My first time hearing M6’s. Wow, just freaking WOW! Paired with Q-Sub 18’s.

Wicked fast. 3D. PERFECT driver integration. Imaging like a electrostatic speaker, with the dynamics and punch of a world class cone speaker.

I hate to use the word “perfect”, but these are indeed perfection.

This demo so far is my best sound at the show by a mile. Simply incredible! And this was the very first Magico speakers I have heard. Boy what a good first impression. Wow! Wow! Wow!

Totally agree.

How do the M2s compare to the M6s?

Obviously the Q18s with the M6s make it an unfair comparison, their subs are .... to die for! (i'm biassed tho)

They are clearly cut from the same cloth and do the same disappearing act.

Not sure what you guys heard, but that Magico demo system with the subs had awful bass. Extremely boomy, and the subs stood out so much. I LOVED what I heard from the speakers though. Was a very poorly set up and tuned system as far as bass goes however.

Mike , thank you so much for taking time to take and upload all those photo´s

Interesting feedback.

Stereophile made exactly the same boomy bass observations about the Magico M6 / Dan D'Agostino room.

Stereophile said “Alas, the hard sound and moderately booming bass, whether on a recording of Bach's Suite No.1 for unaccompanied cello or some driving fusion, made for a less than auspicious start to a show where, as I soon discovered, many visitors to these huge Convention Center spaces were more interested in chatting than listening."

Illinois dealer F1 choice of décor – a crate backdrop for heaven’s sake – was very stark and one can’t help but think that a US$430k+ system really deserves to be presented better.

I’m wondering what changed when RonDIY and I were listening (not together). Maybe they tweaked the subs? Don’t know. But what I heard was superb, and no bass boom at all. Not sure how you get bass boom with Bach anyway. [emoji6]

I’ll certainly venture back today or tomorrow and make a recording for everyone.

I was there at the very beginning it was actually about 9:40am and the bass was very tight and articulate at that time. I don't know what they changed. But my wife and I both agreed. Very good.

FWIW, Odyssey and I had a similar experience at CES years ago with the Q7 MKII and the Q-Sub 18. The sound wasn't great Friday or early on Saturday, but I dragged him back again on Sunday to find the sound in the room had totally transformed. Particularly in the lowest octaves.

For anyone who wasn't impressed with the M6, I'd recommend trying again, later on Saturday or on Sunday, if that's possible.

And I defer to Kiwi on "boomy bass" issues. Given his lengthy, and well-documented, experience with Raidho and Borresen, he knows WAY more about that than I ever will.
