Axpona 2017 Best Of

C'mon guys, spill the beans, since Fremer isn't forthcoming with the details :)

Things that make you say hmmm.....

Yes, I know the whole story (a friend witnessed the whole thing, I was too busy at the Casino with a bunch of our guys). I've been biting my tongue for the whole week. But since Fremer brought it up...

A most unedifying performance by all reports by two reviewers who presumably should be mature by their age, and should know better. No matter who the protagonist was, both are to blame for having participated in the argument instead of walking away. The worst of it is, I've just lost respect for both reviewers.

Great thread. Just caught up. Glad to see Aardvark taking thinly veiled swipes at some of us fan bois (why can't he just say boys? hmmm)..... I do love Ayre, but it's not the be all end all. I like Pass too, but not the company. Lot's of great gear, but for the price points Ayre's in, it's really hard to beat if you are a SS person. I can't do tubes anymore. If it was a signal tube or possibly a hybrid, I would, but I don't need to with the AX5/20. Not a commercial, but a great piece. Aard has a problem when he called Ayre directly. I only know Ayre's side and he didn't do what they asked and is pissy over it. nuff said. Great stuff and solid support by Mike and others who sell it.

Power conditioners. I agree totally with what Mike posted about 5 pages back. I just installed the Niagara 1000 strip. It's the perfect size for what I'm doing and the sound is very close the the 5000, just without the extra outlets. If I had the room, I'd have done the 5000 probably.

That leaves me with a Synergistic Research Powercell 10 mk2 Tesla cord to sell. No scratches (that I can see) and it comes with everything from the gloves to the bullets. This has been the only conditioner that I was able to plug my amp into and not have it choked off. I'm not plugging the AX5 into the Niagara, but I've heard amps plugged into the 7000 with Garth and none of use could hear a difference when the amps were drawing max power. I was a bit surprised by that, but the 7000 has a special deal built in just for this purpose. It's a pretty amazing device.

The SR I'm selling is also a great device and for folks who like to change the sound, those bullets really do work. I have no idea what they are doing, but they do warm the sound, neutralize it or add sparkle on top. I just alway kept the neutral one in. I know a few Magico owners who swear there is synergy between SR/Magico. I don't know as I've not heard them together.

I've never been to a show, but I may do this show next year. Seems like you guys have a lot of fun hanging out and listening. I've spoken to some folks who got to wonder the show this year for their first times as they weren't tied down to a room or having to report on 'speakers over 20k', lol. They felt it was an excellent show. Thanks Mike and to the rest of you guys who were there and are sharing.

Any thoughts on the Magico S3kMk2 room with CH Precision electronics? I've been trying to find some feedback on it but, haven't read anything. I believe their sources were the Kronos Pro and Berkeley Reference 2.

Plus the MIT Speaker "Interfaces" they used probably retail close to the speakers themselves.

The S3 Mk2's got honorable mentions as among the Best in show despite being paired with CH Precision which would not be my first choice for synergy. I think they would have gotten even better sound paired with Vitus, Soulution, Pass, Vac IQ series or CAT. Similarly Constellation wouldn't be my first choice with the S5 Mk2's ;).

Someone told me there was a heated confrontation at one of the later night MBL sessions. One guy apparently said something not so good about Vandersteen and the other was quick to defend. They were talking about taking it outside etc. I guess the guy who saw it didn't stick around to see the conclusion.

And........... no, it wasn't me, LOL Friday was the concert for me which was good, I hadn't heard of Frank Catalano but intend to add some material to my library. Saturday, a friend and I went to the Gamut room to hear the Larson speakers. Larson was in the marketplace with no place to audition. The Larson sounds good, their deal is you can place them right up against a wall, actually they are designed for that. Then Beno wandered in so I met him and spent a long time talking and eventually listening to his system that I enjoyed a lot. Interesting amp design. Instead of several matched pairs of output devices he uses these large mongo devices used in welding. It's funny I used to tease about high current amps saying you could arc weld with them. And now there's actually an amp with that component, LOL

Beno is Gamut. They keep very few dealers, I know there's one in Chicago but you'd have to inquire on the website to see the others, I believe there's only 5 or 6.

Wes Bender of Wes Bender Studio NYC is also a premier Gamut dealer. Works very closely with Beno. I'd encourage you to look him up. He has a full
Line of Gamut and knows the product better than anyone. I personally have done business with Wes and his integrity is second to none. Good luck.

So....what is it that I didn't do and what is your experience with Mike's 'solid support' on the matter?

I think he means I support all the products I sell.

In the Ayre vs Pass battle, can you both just agree to disagree?
