Axpona 2015 - Best...and not so best of....

Great job Myles, Peter and David. I think David and I have similar tastes - especially for sources!

Myles,

What did you think of the High Water Sound room? I believe Jeffrey was utilizing the Audia Flight amplifiers with Verity speakers, TW Acustic Raven GT SE table and Tron phono stage.

There was something not happening the first day. The room was better later in the show but perhaps I could never quite get into the sound because I know those amps sound much better than I was hearing. Way too closed in and dark sounding for me. And a little too dynamically lacking.

Thanks for the reply, Myles.
Any guess what the culprit might have been? The table? Speakers? The room?

I could have sworn someone told me that. Guess it was bad Intel.

Mike, Nick told me he will be represented by 3 or 4 additional dealers within the next 6 to 12 months. He said he will continue with Larry (I perceived nothing but a positive relationship still exists there). He said he would not be going beyond that level of distribution because he wants to continue making everything himself. I asked him why he couldn't just work harder. He laughed and look at me funny. :D

He sure is a great guy and the tape in that room was to die for as I posted elsewhere. BTW, I saw Chris Connaker sleeping under some chairs in the back of the room with an ice pack on his head when Nick fired up the R2R.

I posted this a few days ago FWIW.

Yes, rooms in shows are never perfect but these events do offer the opportunity to see and hear a lot. Also, a great place to buy music and get together with friends.

For those that attended, it would be great to get your perspective on the following categories:

- Favorite System
- Best Value/Budget System
- Surprise system or component (in a positive way)
- Did you see any new trends?

Purposely stayed away from disappointing components or systems.

By the way, I planning to attend RMAF. Hope to see you guys there.

Thx!

- Favorite System
IMO a better question might be second place. First goes to SF/ARC. Second goes to Kronos, Audionet and the little YG's.

- Best Value/Budget System
Sconsonic/Aavik (I am conflicted, however).

- Surprise system or component (in a positive way)
DS Audio DS-W1 Optical Cartridge.

- Did you see any new trends?
Fremer using a different hair gel than last year.

Very well done Myles.

So with this show getting larger, is RMAF in trouble? I have plans to go to Denver in October but I'm starting to wonder if I should add AXPONA 2016 to my plans.

Both are good shows but different and at different times of the year. RMAF is still bigger but Marjorie has to step up her game and get the word out more or Axpona and Newport are going to pass her by.

It's the same people coming every year. It does boggle my brain that RMAF is still the best consumer show in the country but only draws 2-3000 attendees????

As Myles said, both good shows, with lots to see. Might come down to some specific item at one vs the other that you want to see/hear. Or which has better stairs/elevators. I think I'd give the nod to Axpona there, YMMV.
Do both and decide for yourself.;)

cheers,

I have gone to both shows and I prefer Axpona due, in part, to the fact that it is smaller. While there were certain rooms that were crowded at times, the entire Axpona show never feels crowded. Moving around RMAF can be very hectic at times.

I am hoping that some of the vendors who have not been attending Axpona consider it for 2016.

The other difference I have found between RMAF and Axpona is that there are more audio dealers at Axpona than RMAF and I like the mix between manufacturers and vendors.

thanks for the show report and the effort. if you'd like some constructive criticism--and I very well might be in the minority--but I think the high end needs to market itself more effectively to younger people and you could use your platform to do it more.

Thanks for the props, I think we did a great job :)

Yes....very, very enjoyable wrapup. They are always very entertaining. Great dynamics between you guys too.
Thumbs up!

Why not do Munich guys. That would be quite the adventure. LoL
