Avoid the snake oil

Wow. To paraphrase the bard, methinks thou doth protest too much.

I don't know how many here have ventured over to ASR, but Matt's characterization of what goes on there is only partly accurate. I tried to make a few constructively critical posts and they were censored (i.e., moderator removed within minutes of posting). So apparently only those "experts" that are Amir-approved are allowed to post dissenting commentary or opinions.

To Matt: you should be aware that blind-testing as you describe it ("...a modest attempt...") may give you results that you trust, but those results have no more validity in a scientific sense than other anecdotal data or opinions, and just as much relevance to anyone else.

This thread has been a good chuckle while enjoying my before dinner Manhattan …….. :celebrate008_2:

Mature people accept reality.

And everyone lives within their own reality, NOT yours. As for stamping your feet, what do you think your long argumentative posts look like? It seems you will stamp your feet until we all bow down and accept your views and beliefs as our own.

I guess when that happens, we will all be eating Raspberry Pi :)

Now since you care so much about sound in film, can you address why just about every movie we watch, most people have issues with the dialog due to all the background noise, music, sounds. Nobody needs a double blind test to agree that film dialog sound sucks.

Soooo….anyone else excited that Tom Brady is coming back?

😎

For the ASR members here - is that something we can measure or is it subjective? :D

I’m buying my next car on measurements alone. Test driving is so over rated. I’m sure there is a measurement for feel. [emoji14]

A Yugo for Mike.... woot woot... I hear they handle like they are on rails (being carried away from the junk yard on railroad cars)... and horse power is so over rated... their measurements are off the charts (literally, off the charts)...

Funny thing Mike I do see that example playing out more and more ……...

Mike - just don't use the measurement or feel method (on others:roflmao:) when visiting the Gentlemen's Club. I guess without the ability to measure, it won't be recommended by ASR vs. something like the manaquins in a store window.

Easier than responding to my questions and the points I've made I guess. *shrug*

Generally (putting quibbles aside): I agree.

Agreed that ASR, like any forum, have their issues. I've butted heads hard over there, as some members refuse to allow that subjective reviews can be any use at all. (Not all...just some members). I'm not a fan of dogma in any form. (I'm happy to admit I'm no expert, that I could be wrong in my understanding, but at least appeal to some objective evidence can help explain how I'm wrong).

I like audioshark forum quite a lot, and enjoy reading member reviews. Unfortunately it doesn't seem welcoming to someone who may not share all the beliefs of the Forum Host, even if I try to provide my reasons for my position. I think a forum should be judged not only on when everyone is in agreement, but on what it looks like when audiophiles may have a different view on something. Mike was quite civil for the most part and I appreciate it (until he agreed with someone I was a Troll...and then it was just down hill from there...)

In a single thread here I've encountered plenty of ad hominem replies, name-calling ("troll alert") responses, and it's now become utterly dismissive and mocking. At least when I go against the grain at the ASR forum I get much more substantive replies, even if they disagree.

I do appreciate that some members on the thread recognized I'm not a troll (and even generally agreed with some of what I've written).
Others took the lazy route. By all means, back to talk of secret identities, trolls and discussing football instead...if that is how they roll.

Cheers, and thanks for your replies.
