That sounds like fun. My client her in Tampa will be receiving his Trio XD's today! Very exciting stuff.

I have been there twice, and at one time another had bought along the Airtight 300b integrated and the Audionote 300b integrated to compare with their class A. I found the Airtight and their own amps the best. The trios there have a lot of space so sound brilliant.

Bonzo, that's great news!

Back when I visited the Avantgarde factory several times before & while I was the distributor, their demos (of each model) were very disappointing, as were their show demos.

IMO, of course.

If I hadn't already set-up several pairs and understood what they could do, Avantgarde-USA would never have happened.

I wouldn't be surprised if the huge demo improvement is due to the efforts of Armin Krauss...

How many pairs?

Two. I tried hard to convince him to go with the bass horns. In the previous generations, the 225's were good and preferred, but AG said the new bass horns far surpass the 231's. The 231's replace the previous 225. Anyway, he can always upgrade later. Regardless, I'm sure it will sound incredible and who knows, the 231's may end up being perfect.

Jim,

After all your (former) years with AGs - what were your favorite electronics pairings?

Armin is a great demonstrator! We've had the fortune to have him with us a couple of times[emoji2]

Hi they don't have any isolation, on either the electronics or the speakers, and all that can be set up better. But what I like about it is exactly that. Plump the speakers down, the electronics on top of each other (literally), and I enjoy the system. I heard in Sound galleries Monaco in a 6m * 5m place and it sounded great with an Oppo and Tom Evans (he normally uses audiopax). That is why I like (good) horns, put them down and they work as long as you have some space.

I respect Armin, he really was honest about his opinions

Before I purchased my Duo Mezzo XD which replaced Duo Omega G2 in my system we have payed a visit together with my wife to AG HQ in order to evaluate differences between Trios with 231 subs and Duo Mezzo.
I had with me around 10 cds ( part of them xrcd by JVC) with the music I was familiar with.
The amps for Duo Mezzo and Trios were AG XA pre + power amps.
We have been impressed by the coherency of Duo Mezzo presentation and disapointed by Trios with 231 subs.
Finally we listened to Trios with 6 basshorns- better than with 231 subs , but did not convince me , for us Duo Mezzo have better price/SQ relation.
Then I ordered Mezzo XD series because of very enthusiastic Mike's opinion .
I do not regret, it' a real leap forward.

Interesting. I compared the 6 subs to 2 subs but could not make out much difference, but loved the bass horns. I think they are key for me.

From what I understand the Duo Primo XD is a good alternative for the one who do not have room for the Trio...
