ZERO 1 by Avantgarde Acoustic

More integrated, compact and simple, and yet a veritable horn loudspeaker—to the very last decibel. The ZERO 1 is a dream come true—one that we have shared with many friends of our horn loudspeaker factory for over twenty years. After all, as fascinated, moved and amazed we may be by our larger acoustic transducers, we have always longed for a more compact horn loudspeaker to make the incomparable experience of Avantgarde Acoustic accessible to a wider audience of audio enthusiasts.

The ZERO 1 opens up this new road with a revolutionary size, simplified shape, hassle-free setup and fully integrated processor and amplifier technology.

Despite its clear, simplified shape and compact size, the ZERO 1 is brim-full of self confidence as it seamlessly integrated into its owner's living environment. Moreover, its recessed spherical wave horn is a shining example of functional beauty.

Digital processors, analogue-to-digital converters, power amplifiers and loudspeakers—all in a fully integrated system. And more importantly: all of a level of high-end quality hitherto unseen in this category.

The loudspeakers communicate with each other via a radio link. They only need to be hooked up to the mains with the digital input of the master loudspeaker connected to the music signal (e.g. via AirPort Express*).
That's it.

Hi Joe, I have not heard them. I've heard that they play loud and are very dynamic like the rest of the Av's, but I'm a sucker for tubes on Av's, which you can't do with the Zeros.

Hi Joe,
I was late to read this as I am still in Hong Kong (vacation with dear wife). I have heard them at local dealer when they brought it in a day before I left for my vacation last week.

Its a white pair as shown (seems like Avantgarde's favourite colour for this model at the moment, although understand more flavour are available). It comes with the SAME remote control as my X-Series Preamp. Just plug them into a power point, with one of them hooked to your wifi base station and you are done. This serves as the master while the second speaker - works remotely off as a "slave" via wifi. This is different from Meridian setup, as BOTH speakers needs to be hooked up via ethernet cables directly off the source (Core or 808.5, 818v2).

The build is superb! Nothing to complain about and the height of the speaker is about just right when one is seated (meaning the tweeter is right onto the ear level). The performance is really good. For the price, one can't fault it at all, given that it comes together with a pair of amplifiers for both the mid/high and bass. Its kind of like the Dynaudio XEO speakers but way better in both finish and performance. Oh, the price too!

Would I buy it? well, I am a freak for anything thats beautiful and a great performer. So, the answer is a resounding yes! For a second system that will help lessen the hookup mess one gets, even simpler than the Meridian by at least one cable (if one wants to nit pick).

If you want choice of amps to go with it (tubes, SS, hybrid), then give this a pass. The norm Uno's would serve you way better (and in sound quality too). But like I said, as a second system where one just want beauty, nice music (and not SERIOUS hifi), this is about the best there is today!

Thats my view after a short one hour audition. Recommendation - go see and give it a listen. Who knows, you might just want a pair for your bedroom pleasure.

Cheers!

Thanks Jerry.

I found a local Avantgarde dealer and plan to hear the Uno and Duo. I think they are physically too big for me, but no harm in looking and hearing.

Hi Joe,
Went back to have a good listen to the ZERO's and these are the "new" things I discovered to shared with you.
First and foremost, the remote control is "like" the X Series Pre's BUT with 2 big difference. One of which is there is a selection button which the X-Pre Amp's remote does not have and the next is that the X-Pre's will NOT work controlling the ZERO's. It has to be THE remote that is made for them.
The speaker DO sound great! And nice too. I have taken a picture with them for your view. I am not too tall a person (kinda short), so its not that 'overwhelming' a piece in any environment.
Go have a listen. Like I said before, and I still stand by what I have said, its a great pair of speakers!
Cheers!2013-11-07 16.44.51.jpg

Awesome Jerry!

Thank you so much. It's okay, you are a giant in my book. I am vertically challenged too. :)
