thanks....
Now, can someone explain me the difference in positioning between the X100s and the N100s (with the optional SSD in the N100) : they Both have 1 to !?
--> is N100s superior to X100s ? or just a "modern" X100s
--> and what can we expect from the N10 compared to the N100 in term of sound quality ?
OK, I guess I can finally shed some light...on the N100. I have to say...it is not what I was expecting.
First, the good news: fit n finish is great; I love the form factor. The app is sexy, and highly-functional...with good TIDAL integration. And I would say it sounds much better, than your run of the mill, PC-based streamer.
The "medium" news, lol: it
does have it's hiccups and glitches. When I was getting used to it, it seemed a bit much; but I would chalk that up to half twitchiness and half, new-user error. Now that I'm more familiar and used to it; it's livable, and I remain optimistic that the firmware will mature.
Now the bad news, AFAIC: this is NOT a plug-n-play, stand-alone...plays-files-from-an-NAS player! It needs a media-server, to push files to the N100; Aurender's in-house AMM (Aurender Media Manager). I have to admit...I guess I just didn't read far enough; they cover it, with this blurb:
The Aurender Music Server/Player series could play contents on the NAS by file/folder browsing. With the help of AMM for PC/Mac, N100 and all other existing Aurender Music server series can display and use meta-tag information of the contents on the NAS the same as the content in the Aurender's internal Storage.
To me....this was my being very familiar with these products, and taking something for granted. And it goes to bmichels point; I don't think there's ANY difference, between the N100 and X100...except the X100 comes with a 3.5" HDD. I almost guarantee...with this AMM, you could push NAS files to the X100 as well; in fact, I think they so much as say so.
Not only that...but you can use a USB-attached drive, with the N100 (granted...after you download the AMM, run the USB drive as the share, and then attach it directly to the N100). Weird...there's a LOT of overlap here; and again, as bmichels says...if you put an internal HDD in the N100, for storage. What
is the difference?
Oh, also; AMM is MAC only presently. Windows based version, in "March". So for now...it's TIDAL; and I can play my own files, through a folder structure (manual browse through files, no meta-data, cover art, etc.). I'm still optimistic about the product (although I'm wishing, Mike hadn't seemingly changed his mind...about letting me contrast it with his Auralic Aries

). But that being said...a player, that will play files from an network; as long as a media server is pushing them to it...is hardly ground-breaking.
Squeezebox has been doing that, for 15 years; and for about a tenth of the cost.
