Over the past few weeks I have been researching digital players/streamers to replace my OPPO 103 w/ external hard drive.

The Aurender A10 looks very promising, the build in DAC would allow me to run the balanced out into my Marantz AV7702. Using Pure Direct the signal would be directly passed to my amps.

But, the upgrade path for the A10 is somewhat limited, although it can be used sans it's DAC via USB out. My Marantz does not have a USB input (which I find ridiculous on a fairly modern home theater processor).:reallymad:

I know the A10 is a N100H-4TB with built-in high quality DAC. Thus, my question - for the $2,500 price differential between the products what is an equivalent DAC?

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve - welcome. There are a lot of great DAC choices in that price range. One of my favorites is the Ayre Codex. The other is the Bryston BDA-3. The Lampizator Amber DAC is also worth strong considerations. The Mytek too offers a plethora of PCM, DSD, MQA as well. Lots of good choices.

What you get with the A10 however is full blown MQA all in one box with still the option to an outboard DAC later should you choose....something to consider.

I have not really paid much attention to MQA, but I guess I should. The Mytec products look interesting. I am also looking at the Lynx Hilo and Grace Design m905. Either u it could serve as the hub of a pretty cool system. So many options.
