If anyone is interested in downloading the new Beta version of A+ you can get it here... Download Audirvana Plus BETA | Audirvana

I downloaded it yesterday but didn't have much time to try it out. First reports say that it is very good and improves on the latest version. More linear across the board and possibly a bit more bass. I liked what I heard before I had to box everything up. I'll be updating my findings once I get my gear back up and running.

I downloaded the A+ Beta over the weekend. 1st impressions are good. Better detail across the board.

Thanks for this...I use Decibel and briefly tried Audirvana, liked it better, but never got around to purchasing past the trial version. It was already better than Decibel, if just a bit, for sound quality. I'll give it a whirl this week.

I love A+ and not just because of the great sound and easy interface. To me having a developer who is constantly tweaking to make it sound better and is willing to listen to input from his audience regarding ideas is worth the purchase.

So any thoughts on this new version? I've been listening to it for a couple of days now but since I'm in a whole new place I really can't compare to earlier versions.

I have it on my family room system. Man, I really never heard much difference. Tough to AB now that it's upgraded.

I'm in the same boat. It would be nice to have two music servers running different versions for AB'ing. I guess I need to put faith in Damien that his tweaking is for the betterment of sound quality.

I just downloaded the new official version of A+. I think it's 1.5 now. There are a few added changes, one in particular that I was asking Damien about a couple months ago. You now have the capability of converting files, redbook and up, to higher resolution. not only is this possible but he took it to the next step. You have the option of choosing what resolution it's converted to. So, for example, you can take a 44.1 file and convert it to 96, 176.4, 192, etc... That can be done with each file rate also. Of course there are many who say that upconverting adds bits that shouldn't be there, and therefore actually degrades the sound, but I always like having the option.

Have you tried it? How does it sound? Did you go to 96 or higher?

Most of my listening lately has been vinyl but I'll listen to it today and let you know how it sounds. I can go to 192 on my DAC but tend to prefer 96. I'll check out both today and let you know what I think later on.

Doug - the only digital I can tolerate (when comparing to vinyl) is pure DSD recordings, like the ones from Home | Blue Coast Records They are truly magnificent. 3 dimensional in sound. Very very realistic. SACD's converted to DSD are ok too, but not quite at the level of these pure DSD recordings.

It looks like a few more bugs were worked on because it's ver. 1.5.1 now. I did listen to some files that I had converted from 44.1 to 96 & 192. The soundstage seemed to be a bit more expanded and there was a sense of greater air around the notes. I couldn't tell a difference between 96 & 192 samples though. The differences were pretty subtle and if I didn't know what the file rate was of a song I wouldn't have been able to pick out what's what.

Interesting. Have you found that native 24/96 files actually sound a smidge better than 24/192?

Yes I have. I really like 24/96 files but with 24/192 there seems to be a "sizzle", for lack of a better word, on the top end. Maybe that's what people call "digital hash."

Interesting. I tend to agree.

You really must hear these direct to DSD recordings from Blue Coast Records. They are something else.....but still not better than vinyl. :D
