Audiophile or Audio-Fooled? How Good Are Your Ears?

Wow, using crappy headset at work thru crappy computer, I picked the 320 every time. Would be interesting to take same test on a real stereo without cans.

I had taken that test before , got 5 out of 6 , i missed the first one , but in doing so it made me pickup on the sonic signature of each format , the electronic music was the most difficult to determine as it was junky except for the high freq limit. The easiest way to detect which is WAV is listen for the reverberation tails and high frequency extension, the WAV is by far the best there ...

BTW , No headphones, desk top speakers thru PC ....

Regards .

I really agree with the guy when he says it's not how good your hearing is, it's how well you listen with what you have. (paraphrased) However, I'm not sure why he was promoting mp3. I also think he was stretching things a bit and making broad generalizations on how "all" audio engineers, producers etc. listen when working on an album. I suppose I can concede when it comes to modern Pop, for the most part, it probably wouldn't matter if it's 324 or WAV by the time the tracks get compressed and manipulated.

I will preface I can easily hear the difference between mp3 and CD. Often times, despite what that guy says, to my ears an mp3 can sometimes sound like a remix of a familiar song, some frequencies are accentuated more than original. This seems to be more apparent on radio, perhaps there's even more manipulation going on through the broadcast procedure.

When I listened to the test, the music was very low, I heard differences in the samples though. I didn't like how fast he switched or how short the samples were either. I didn't want to crank up the samples then have his voice blast my ears.
