An 18" driver can be a 15" wide speaker, by "folding"...the dipole baffle. The driver remains intact.

Because that's what they know best. Same reason they use it for your car, cellphone, airplane, computer, etc, etc.Why some of the top speaker's and amplifier's designers use precise tools and measurements to create their masterpiece?

Indeed. The soundfield (pardon the pun) heard by the ears is a product of the 3d radiation of the speakers into the room and the subsequent direct/reflected field. Understanding the attributes and relevance of both perceptually, when measuring, is key.its all about the room![]()
