Audio Fake Detector PRO is a a tool developed by me, designed to identify audio files passed off as "high quality" (lossless or high
bitrate) but which actually come from compressed and lossy sources, such as MP3

Please don't take this personally but, can't you tell by listening, if they are not high quality?

Hi Brad,

No offense taken at all! It’s a very fair question, and actually, it highlights exactly why this tool was built.

While the human ear is incredible at judging the artistic quality of music, it has severe physical and psychological limitations when it comes to technical verification and digital forensics. Here is why listening isn't enough:

  • The Psychoacoustic Brick Wall: When a low-quality file is upsampled, encoders use psychoacoustic models to remove frequencies that the human brain thinks it can't hear due to auditory masking. A fake lossless file might sound "good enough" or even "great" to our ears, but the spectral data doesn't lie. The missing frequencies are permanently gone.
  • The Hardware Variable: To catch high-frequency caps or subtle upsampling by ear, you need studio-grade monitors, an excellent DAC, a treated room, and pristine hearing. The software provides an objective baseline regardless of your listening environment.
  • Automation of Deep Analysis: Listening to a full track to catch anomalies requires undivided attention and significant time. While this tool focuses on a deep, thorough analysis rather than rushed speed, it automates the tedious process of inspecting entire folders, delivering detailed, reproducible logs without human fatigue.
  • Objective vs. Subjective: Human hearing is highly subjective and changes with fatigue, age, and mood. Digital forensics requires binary, reproducible proof (like looking at a spectral cutoff or bitstream characteristics), which is exactly what an automated analyzer provides.
In short: our ears tell us if we like how it sounds; the tool tells us exactly what the file structurally is. Hope this clears up the philosophy behind it!

Seems this will only work on a Windows machine?
