Anybody use or have experience with ATC? For some reason they've always interested me, and I think something like the active 19 or 20s would be perfect for my small listening room. That said I've never heard a pair, so I've got no idea whether or not I'd actually enjoy them. I'm just curious...

Excellent speakers. I love them. Try to hear the ATC SCM 40, I think they are in their sweet spot with ATC's famous mid range driver.

I had the smaller SCM11 and SCM19 at home (both passive). They have impressed me a lot. Especially the smaller SCM11 is a gem cosidering the very modest cost. They a sealed design (like the Magicos) which I like as they eproduce a real quality bass.

Great speakers!

They're very open sounding, precise, high resolution (but not etched), low distortion, can play very loud; the passive versions have a low sensitivity and need powerful amps.

They are a low Q design so it might take a little adjustment to their very tight, lean bass if you're used to the usual ported bass. Work very well in small rooms as they're not boomy at all.

They will show the flaws of a recording and you will find yourself searching for the better recorded stuff to play on them.

Absolutely loves the sound of the SMC 11. Probably the best bookshelf I've heard in that size and price category. Unfortunately I have not heard any of their floorstanders

Never owned a pair, I have heard them a few times. I really like ATC, tight punchy bass and a lively mid to top end, I may mean the same as someone mentioned "open" sound. The midrange just sounds more like live than what I hear in many other speakers.

I'll definitely be on the lookout. Thanks.

ATC's are exceptional speakers. I listened amny active/passive models. First thing you should do about ATC is demo. You may like them, you may hate them. After all they are studio monitors. If you like the sound, smc50 active is the sweet spot imho. Buying a decent dac with a volume control, and a pair of interconnect is all you need to bulid up a very very good system. But beware, you should have to listen first, you should have to buy appropriate size spekaer for your room, and imho active is the way to go.

I should also note that the smaller SCM11 have a different tonal balance than the bigger SCM19. The 19s sound more open with more top end energy than the warmer sounding 11s.

I heard these speakers recently and I was impressed. Very open and clean and accurate. I heard the Active version.

Front end was a Prism Callia dac/pre and a Laptop. Nice and simple.

For a second system where you want to keep it simple. Can't go wrong imo

Love the look of these.

The ATC Active speakers are great, I had a pair of ATC SCM40A, which in my humble opinion had a top to bottom dynamics to die for.
Very musical and great low end authority!

The SCM40's are what I listen to daily. I'll echo what others have said. Very open and resolving. The midrange does sound more like live music than most speakers I've heard. Tight and articulate bass.

I have lived more than 3 years with scm 50 tower passive and active versions. Those speakers are real bargain.
