"As Time Goes By" Harry Nilsson (1973)

I own most of Nelson's vinyl albums and love listening to them them. Great music. He was quite a character and an exceptional talent, well worth reading about. Died in 1994 at 52, a great loss.
Absoulutely agree. I rediscoved Harry last year and came across this documentary. As I recall from the documentary, Harry was a total mess at the time of this recording session. Sure can't tell from the sound--what a voice! Obviously it was before he totally thrashed his vocal chords recording a song with John Lennon.

This posting brought back a lot of memories, not of Harry Nilsson, but of Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, in one of the greatest love story/war movies, "Casablanca," released in the middle of World War II in 1943. Dooley Wilson sang "As Time Goes By", playing Sam, Bogie's piano player at his bar. And Bogie didn't say "Play it again, Sam". Ingrid Bergman was never more radiant and Bogie was Bogie.

There were Bogart festivals at the Brattle Theatre in Harvard Square in Cambridge in the '60's during each exam period, and most all the students would turn out to see Casablanca and the other great Bogart movies. Many of us had memorized all the great lines from the movies by the time we graduated. This, no doubt, was the greatest song.
