ARC Ref 10 vs CJ GAT(2) ?

Glad to hear it, Joe! It’s definitely a gorgeous unit.

Thank you Sean. It's definitely a reference level piece.

Congrats Joe. I hope this gives you long term musical satisfaction.

Thank you Shane. It's wonderful. I wish you could hear it. :)

Joe, I am shocked a gear rotation guy like you is just now enjoying the REF10. But... very happy to hear how much! Good on you.

Congratz Mr. Joe. It looks amazing. I really love the ARC pieces that I have heard. The Ref 10 looks amazing. It sounds like it is impressing you. This is a good thing. When do you have to decide if you are keeping it or not?

Thank you Bob. I never really considered myself an ARC guy, more like a CJ kind of guy. The Ref 10 breaks the rules.

I have a little more time, but I think it's a done deal.

Wow, now you have tried the Ref 10. I love the combo of ARC and D'Agostino. I wouldn't worry too much about retubing it. If you didn't spend the money on new tubes, it would likely go to some other audio endeavour. It takes awhile to get to the required replacement hours. I have around 850 hours on mine. I listen almost everyday.

ARC/D'Ag combo really is excellent. My stereo is on a minimum 10-15 a day and mostly all weekend. I'll deal with the tube replacements because of what I am hearing. Truly wonderful.

Thank you Randy. I’m pretty blown away right now. Up all night listening again. This is getting bad for my health. :)

Some would argue that is is good for you... relaxation, joy, fulfillment, good endorphins, etc., etc. .... worth more than a silly nights sleep :) ...

Congratulations with the ARC Ref. 10 Joe , i am sure its amazing. Have only heard the ARC Ref. 6 with the Ref 150 on Wilson Audio and that was the best i have ever heard.
Not that i have heard nearly as much as you guys :)

Thank you Flemming.

It really is amazing. Among the best low level, late night listening too. I never expected to be an ARC fan but the Ref 10 is on a whole new level. I am very lucky.

Joe,

I am curious and have to ask. How many hours are on the Ref 10 in your possession? I was skeptical about being told that it needs 600 hours to settle in completely. I heard a significant change earlier than that around 488 hours. It actually became even more 3 dimensional and holographic on the right recordings. I believe as much as you are listening to it right now you will hear it change gears. I am telling you the ARC/D'Agostino is the best of both types.

It had "0" (zero) hours on it when I set it up. I was actually the first to unbox it. The first hour or two I was a little skeptical but kept an open mind. I still have a ways to go for break in. I am only at around 150 hours or so right now. I know that I should not make such proclamations, but this is unreal. I know it will only get better and was thoroughly warned to wait until passing final judgement until 600-700 hours. Even if the Ref 10 gets no better, I'll still be happy. Knowing it WILL get better makes me ecstatic. Even fresh out of the box, it blew away my previous Ref 6. I don't want to disparage the Ref 6 because in the right system, I think it can be great. It was just not "my" taste. The Ref 10 doesn't even sound like it's from the same company.

Yes, the ARC/D'Ag combo is unreal. I can not believe how the stars aligned, clouds opened, and allowed me to acquire these amazing pieces. I still can not believe what I am hearing and this is "only" with my Revel Studio2. The Studio2 just don't get the respect that they deserve. The JBLs should be hooked up next week. That will be fun for sure.

Joe,

When comparing the Ref 6 in comparison to the Ref 10 they are two different preamplifiers. I switched from the Ref 5SE to the Ref 10. For me there was a huge difference in presentation and overall tone. I can't wait to hear your impressions when the JBL's are in the room.
