Anyone know what Harbeth is introducing in Munich?

That's what I am thinking but Alan Shaw keeps teasing it on the forums. I hate that and not even sure it's a speaker but I guess tomorrow will tell.

I really don't see how they could top what they already have in their lineup. I guess we'll have to wait for the Munich show.

Harbeth Newsletter: No.50 April 2014 - Page 2

Well dear readers, by the time you read this I will be on my way to the lovely city of Munich, accompanied by my marketing/PR colleague, Trevor.

As already mentioned, our plans for Munich 2014 were revised a couple of months ago, but what we will be launching has turned out to be serendipitously rather special. That is not to say that it writes-down anything we have brought to market before; we have not reinvented the wheel, and even if we had, we doubt that anyone would believe us. So, our primary objective is to carry forward with us all those satisfied users and Harbeth fans that we have built up over the past 37 years, and to encourage more to step towards our way of doing things. That would be a win-win situation for you and for us.

Most important of all - if you do plan to visit the Munich High End audio show, do come and see us. The high point of any show is meeting and sharing time with end users: you. Yes, we are often busy and if you are short of time and can't return when we might be quieter, at least say 'hello'!

We here at Harbeth UK are delighted with our new iteration, and hope that you will be to. As to assessing the demand from the outset and laying in the production resources to keep the already long lead times under control, that's our challenge. Our experience with the M30 > M30.1 transition showed that it is easy to underestimate demand.

Hi Jerome,

If I read correctly, I think it's an upgrade to to SHL5 to a plus model. I think they are replacing the woofer with a Radial drive unit.

From Audioasylum:

SHL5 "Plus" with revised main driver to "Radial2" status (like the rest of lineup) along with a revised crossover.

Upgrading the existing SHL5 Radial main driver to the "Radial2" driver makes sense and kudos to Harbeth for doing this. Now I wonder if existing SHL5 owners(me)will be afforded the chance to upgrade(hopefully):woot::woot:

Bob,

I am not sure but I have a feeling that you will not have a problem upgrading. I suspect Alan figured this in to his sales equation. Good luck!

I bet it will be amazing :)

I hope not, I have not even received my 40.1's yet :panic:

Joe....you ordered a M40.1 pair ???
I did not know that !
Super Congrats buddy ! You will be thrilled. They have many qualities, but most of all, they have the best mids I ever heard. Voices are just to die for. Try to find a nice McIntosh MC225 to drive them and you will be in heaven...

They should sound great with the Music Reference RM-200. You could even swap out the KT-88's for EL-34's. You would lose a few watts, but get a more "tubey" sound.

Hi Jerome,

I did indeed. I am so excited. Your enthusiasm got me thinking about them again and I could not resist ordering a pair. I hope to see them in 2-3 weeks.

I'll reach out the AC for the MC225 and see what they have.

Sadly, someone made me an offer on the RM-200 that I could not refuse. It is seriously one the the best amps that I've had and am probably crazy for selling it. I just picked up my MC275VI and have ideas for another amp.

As I expected. The new Harbeth is the SHL5+. Not only does it have the "Radial2" mid-bass driver but also a totally revamped crossover. Although it is not confirmed, existing SHL5 owners may not be afforded the opportunity to upgrade. It has something to do with ISO9001 standards. What I get from this is, the speakers would possibly have to be returned to Harbeth for the upgrade to maintain their quality standards. Please do not quote me on this as it has not been confirmed officially one way or the other.
