If yes, would you mind answering a few questions?

How hard would it be to find someone who you don't have a name, but you know the Father's name if it was on the Birth Certificate, and possibly the mother's first name?
We know the year =/- 5 years, Address of father, SS# and WWII Dog Tag#, Birth and death dates of father.

What would you search on? Birth Certificates, Census Records?

Would I just be wasting my time and money attempting to find someone this way on Ancestry.com?

One last question for now, How do you know if someone else is creating a tree and has similar entries?

Thanks for any input!

I think for what you want to do ancestry .com is waste of your time and money.

Try World connect on roots web just type in World Connect and search family tree type in the surname given name the children should be listed under the mans name. The name can be narrowed down by the other info you have. Good luck any questions ask and this site is free

I guess ancestry.com might be a waste of money to some, but it traced my mothers side of the family back to 1890. Never tried the site you mentioned I'm going to give that a try on my fathers side. PS: these finding services work for some and not for others based on the information that's available and what has been kept. My fathers side is really thin on family info. I get back to 1900 and it goes into a dead end.

Brian, you might see a little green leave in the upper right hand corner that notes someone else has collected information that could be useful.

Thanks guys!

I tried the World Connect and it does not bring back the known father but I don't have all the dates to enter here at work. Will retry later.

Not saying ancestry is bad it is more about whole family trees and it almost gives you to much info from some less than great sources that need checking for if the info is even right.

I have tried the free site suggested above and cannot find myself or anyone else in the family I am looking for.

Maybe you don't really exist? ;) Seriously, I tried looking up my family tree and I found out that my fifth great uncle twice removed was actually a chimpanzee named Cheetah who used to appear in Tarzan movies so I gave up my research.

I've never been curious enough about my family to pay anything for look up privileges or whatever. I also don't have any data on family. I don't even have my own birth info and have no use for it anyway. I have a library near me that has a complete genealogy department, but I would not know where to begin. I'm told one needs a class in order to know how to start. I'm inclined to believe that.
