Just wondering if we have any current or past Quicksilver Audio users here. I've been looking at the V4 monos and have read great things about all their amps. :skeptical:

I happen to be a fan of Quicksilver amps and I have owned the V4s you have pictured above as well as several MS-190 amps. The V4s sound very good and the thing I love the most is that you can bias all four tubes in each amp in under one minute and without burning any fingers in the process. The MS-190 amps were my favorites with the triode input boards, but you have to run real Mullard EL-34s (no reissue Mullard EL-34s need apply).

The ultimate Quicksilver amps are the M135 mono amps. Good luck finding a pair as they never come up for sale.

I believe Bob (Absolare) may know.

Love the Quicksilver amps. GREAT bang for the buck. Connect a pair of the 80 or 120 watters up and it's hard to justify spending more, from a sonic perspective. They are not going to give you the resolution of higher priced tube amps or SET's, but they sure do sound good.

Thanks Mark and Bob. It seems really hard to find a bad word about them. I start looking for a solid state amp and always come back to tubes. :)

I've heard them with excellent results driving Vandersteens 5As. You get a lot of amp for the money.

Did you ever get a chance too listen to the Music Reference? I owned both the little MR and the Quicksilver Mini Mono's at the same time. While the Quickies were good, in the end I preferred the Music Reference. I would think the RM-200 would be great with the speakers you have in house.

Hi Jack

I have the Music Reference RM200 and really like it. I do have to say that the RM200 is more solid state sounding than most tube amps that I have heard and owned. I am not saying that in a bad way. The amp seems to have the best of both but sometimes I crave a little more sweetness on top. That's just my personal taste.

Roger's amps are really not the classic "tube sound" like the CJ's and Cary's. More towards neutral like an ARC. Plus the RM-200 is a hybrid. If you could find a used RM-9 it might be more to your liking. But if you are looking for more like the CJ's then the Quickie's will give you that. John at Audio Connection has the Quicksilver's and was a MR dealer for years when Roger was still selling through dealers. A trip there would let you check them out and also get a better listen to the Vandersteen's. Might even consider taking the MR with you and doing an A/B session. He also has the ARC, Cary's and Rogue tube amps in the store.

I plan on going back to see John. I did see the Quicksilver amps there and that's what got me thinking about them. Thanks for the advice.

Hi Jack,

I heard those but did not realize what they were. Very nice! Congratulations. Yes, I had Bruce come over and help me with the biasing. We had to swap some tubes around but everything worked out great.

If I was still single I would buy the 5A Carbon's, but even though my wife loves music, piano player, and appreciates the audio gear she has limits. And I did just buy a new amp and preamp, plus I have the pair of Vandersteen subs already dialed in. While I appreciate JA's review, I place more faith in Doug Blackburn who I have communicated with many times. Like me he has owned Vandies for over a decade and upgraded to the Treos from a speaker I also owned for a couple of years. We both also used the Vandies with Belles amps for a while.
