When I was in the 8th or 9th grade an older guy after learning I was into music suggested I buy Jeff Beck, Wired. I love this album much more now than I did the first time hearing it. It was just like nothing I've heard before and took me some maturing to appreciate it. It is one of my favorite Beck albums.

I would learn Jan Hammer performed on this scorching album with his half keyboard, half guitar instrument. I ran across Jan on another one of my favorite albums, Al Dimeola, Elegant Gypsy. I've one other Dimeola, Hammer albums. Then I come across Hammer playing with Tommy Bolin on Billy Cobham, Spectrum.

I have one Jan Hammer solo album, forget the name, it's really good. I'd say it's Jazz, more mellow than any of the prior albums I mentioned.

I really like his playing but seems he may not be that well known, or at least recognized. I'm not sure if he did all, I saw his name in the credits of Miami Vice for music.

If not a fan you may want to check out some of this music. If a fan maybe you can suggest albums I missed.

Thumbs up for Wired.

One of my all times favorites, have it in all formats. Now hoping for an MQA version as well.

Jan Hammer was also well known for being one of the original members of the Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Crockets Theme!!

What an amazing song ... defined cool if you were a Miami Vice fan.
Thanks for bringing up Jan Hammer. Browsing his albums on Tidal right now.

Big fan of 80s music here. Listening to an album called "Escape from Telivision"

Is the SACD of Wired worth getting if I can find one? I mean, is SQ noticeably improved?

I didn't realize he was in Mahavishnu, I bought one of their CD's when a version was released around 2k give or take, I couldn't get into it. I like Fusion but it has to have some form, too advant- garde becomes noise to me.

TBH, I was never a big Jan Hammer fan. I think he is a great musician, but I just don't like his 'sound'.

Contrary to common practice the original vinyl did not have the best possible SQ and there is a better remastering available.

I would guess the new SACD and the new vinyl do use the same master.
