Anti-virus

Bob, what are your major concerns? Do you plan to browse malicious sites? (porn)

No, never, why do you ask Brian; you know something we don't?
Major concern? I just want peace, no fu**ing up. :)

If all you do is stream from known good sites and post on a few forums, windows defender is good enough along with creating a good restore point after you make any changes like install new programs.

If you get something that defender or Malwarebites cannot handle easily, you just restore the OS back to a known good spot and all the registry changes that the virus did are removed.

It appears that you may be way over complicating things.

Brian, each one of us we eventually end up to a place that we consider perflecty safe and peaceful. ...Did you ever experience* such a place? ;)

* There are some photo sites (Christmas and Birthday cards) which don't like that you view and use their cards!

I must have restored my PC about a thousand times in the last few years! I'm getting bored, and my PC too because it won't allow me to pick any date like it used to be; I have to try a dozen different dates before one finally works, and it never is the best date.

I already mentioned many of my troubles with my PC; I just want peace from my new laptop, that's all.
I'm the type of person who feel totally free on our planet, a very good person, and who is not afraid of exploring the entire cyber world, and the real life as well.
You guys know that type of people, and you know that they are adventurous and aren't afraid to take risks in life; living on the edge and constantly looking real sharp.
That's me, and I just need more security that's all. ...That's my job to secure things up more around.
And there is no better way to do this than all together, as a team.

Oh I meant Audio Porn :)

Again, I still think you are over complicating things. I do sometimes get to bad sites by selecting a page from another page. I know, sometimes I don't follow my own rules.

AVG found almost everything. Every once in a while you hit something that wants to hijack your browser and home page settings but they are usually easy to fix. You can always boot to Safe Mode and delete DLLs and other files that are causing issues but AVG and or Defender with an occasional run of Malwarebites or Spybot Search and Destroy, also FREE, is all one needs. The only reason I used to push Norton is because I made money installing it for paranoid people who could not do it themselves. I tired of it and now tell my customers to just use AVG Free.

I don't think so Brian. My life is perhaps more complicated around than yours? ...And I never follow the rules; rules are for slaves. ...I'm free, remember? :)

Then maybe you should install every know anti virus program just to be sure. I don't understand how a complicated life has anything to do with surfing the internet. But hey, thats your business. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I might try AVG this time around, instead of Avast. ...From what I've been told they are both equivalent, and both free.

And do I also need a Malware and Spyware protection? What's that, and is it important? I know nothing (Robert De Niro's voice).

Don't be so silly; only one anti-virus software is good enough. Besides, you cannot run two at the same time; it's a no-no.

Brian, the Internet is a vast world; and there are some places we can all end up being under observatory. Most people simply don't think or even care about it.
You cannot compare your own PC or Mac experience with someone else because nobody else visit places and do stuff on the Internet like you do, nobody else Brian. You are totally unique in the way you make use of your PC or Mac (smartphone, tablet, laptop). ...And so am I, and her, and him too, and all of us we are all so different, even if we are from the same planet and having red blood pumping into our veins from our heart.

In music it's the same, with audio gear too. ...With movies. ...With women, with everything.

I run AVG; I also run Malwarebytes and Spybot once a week or so. Note that I disable resident features so they don't hog memory continuously. I believe they catch stuff that AVG misses that aren't necessarily viruses or worms but are privacy compromisers.

Anti-malware = yes, Spyware = not so much. It was suggested due to your level of paranoia. It won't hurt to have it.

Eric, do I not already have an anti-malware installed in both my PC and laptop? ...How can I check for that?

* As for my paranoia's level, it's all in your perception, I think. Do I really sound like I'm paranoid? :tumbleweed:

I doubt the PC came with an anti-malware program and if it did, it's most likely a trial version of something that is fairly weak or a gateway to pop ups galore. Malware Bytes is one of the better ones and more widely used and therefore more up to date and better supported.
Maybe not paranoia, but overly concerned.

Malware Bytes, ok; hopefully it doesn't bite. ;)

Concerned, yes a bit. ...Overly, not really, just the right amount. ...After all we're talking bad karma using Microsoft operating system here (Windows), and no Apple's invincibility and invulnerability. ...Got dat! :)
