I recently attended a Wilson Sasha2 private event at my local dealer where Peter McGrath was doing the demo. It was a nice evening (as always is with Joe), and the Sasha2's sounded great. But what I really wanted to comment on was the great experience I had speaking with Peter. I explained to him that really the only complaint I have about the Sasha1 is that the metallic tweeter can be a bit harsh at times. I said I've received advice that I should start looking at cables. Peter gave me probably one of the best pieces of advice I've had in the last few years and thought it worth sharing. He told me to change to the next-lower spike on my Sashas (the upper portion AKA the WATT in the WATT/PUPPY days). He said that the alignment can make just that little bit of difference. This in spite of the math that indicated I should use the 2nd to longest spike from my listening distance and sitting height. I went home and that weekend did as he instructed. While I was at it, I also took his advice about getting my Sasha's off their castors. He explained that Wilson doesn't design their woofers to be at the castor height, rather the spike height.

Peter was spot-on in both cases. The tweeter is much better behaved and what I perceived as a slight sibilance on some tracks is now imperceptible. The bass response is now much tighter, and a bit more even (less boomy); it might even seem to go a bit lower, but I'm not sure yet. In any event, it was refreshing to speak with someone in the business who had great advice that was much appreciated. Talk about integrity. Peter didn't try to tell me I should just get rid of my Sasha's and get the Sasha2's. Wilson Audio, if you're reading this don't punish him for not being a salesman. He probably did you one better as I can now put that money aside for my future upgrade on the Wilson line like Alexia's or Maxx4's (when they come out)! Thanks Peter, and Thanks Wilson Audio. You guys rule.

Great story Bryan. Peter is a classy guy. This type of approach permeates all of Wilson (they need to real in one of their rogue dealers, but that's a whole other story).

The folks at Wilson know people spend their hard earned dollars and they want to ensure everyone gets the fullest and best experience.

Every time I've called Wilson, their support people have been very helpful and given me some good ideas. For example, before treating my room, I was getting a hint of a lively tweeter off the angled part of my ceiling. I called Wilson support with the intent of eventually buying resistors to drop the tweeter a db or two. Instead, they told me to just move the tweeter module back one notch. He felt it would accomplish the same thing and save me a few dollars. Voila! It worked. Once my treatments were done, I moved the tweeter back.

You are moving the tweeter even more off-axis (as it is already off-axis, since the front is sloped), which attenuates the HF, which in turn makes them more listenable.

As far as the custommer support is concerned, Wilson certainly ranks among top 5 companies in the world (in my experience, they are #1).

Bryan,

Your Sashas were still on the casters?

Didn't your dealer do the WASP?

BTW, there will never be a MAXX 4.

Thank you for sharing this with us, Bryan! Peter is not only a classy guy, he also has a lot of experience. I still am taken back when I hear him give a demonstration. I have learned a lot, and hope to learn a lot more from him.

I will make sure to pass this along to others at Wilson Audio.

I was advised to do the same thing to tone down the tweeter. Worked like a champ. I find the tweeter in the Sasha 1 to be amazing when setup correctly. Very detailed yet silky or airy. Not properly setup it drove me out of the room.

Is the silk dome tweeter in Alexias and Sasha 2 very different from the Focal inverted titanium dome in the Sasha 1? Less forward/less extended/less ???

The Alexia tweeter is much smoother than the Focal tweeter without any loss of detail.

Aside from the great new tweeter (first used in the Duette), the propagation delay is really what sets the Alexia's apart.

@jap --

It's been a schedule issue. I'm pretty busy and every time I find a block of time, they're never available. Peter was adamant that they need to get out to my house and get them setup. He even told me to contact him if it had not been done (i.e. if the dealer was unresponsive, etc.).

As for the MAXX4, is your statement purely speculation or do you have some source or fact to back it up with?

I trust you're aware of the terms of the WA warranty:

Limited Warranty
Subject to the conditions set forth herein, Wilson Audio warrants its electronics to be free of manufacturing defects in material and workmanship for the Warranty Period.
The Warranty Period is a period of 90 days from the date of purchase by the original purchaser, or if both of the following two requirements are met, the Warranty Period is a period of five (5) years from the date of purchase by the original purchaser:
Requirement No. 1. No later than 30 days after product delivery to the customer, the customer must have returned the Warranty Registration Form to Wilson Audio;
Requirement No. 2. The product must have been professionally installed by the Wilson Audio dealer that sold the product to the customer.
FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH EITHER REQUIREMENT NO. 1 OR REQUIREMENT NO. 2 WILL RESULT IN THE WARRANTY PERIOD BEING LIMITED TO A PERIOD OF 90 DAYS ONLY.

I suggest you contact Peter or send an email to Trent Workman, [email protected].

As for no MAXX4, there was no W/P 4. 4 is an unlucky number in Asian cultures, a big market for WA products.

Sounds like Jap is part of the "WASP" Police  Do you work for Wilson?

So by your same reasoning, there won't be a Sasha 4? Does that come with our without chicken bones and a rabbit's foot?

Sorry, I'm just trying to help you get the services/warranty you paid for.

And yes, there will never be a Sasha 4 or any other model 4/series 4 WA speaker.

Arabs are good clients and the 4 number is bad luck for them
That's also why there is not 4 series product on ARC

Simple answer

I don't recall asking you for your help. You're just being pedantic and rude quite honestly. I'm aware of the terms of purchase and warranty. You really shouldn't think people who spend tens of thousands of dollars for speakers are idiots.

And whether or not it's called the Maxx5 or some other name, I really don't care; that's not the point. You're just nitpicking.

Sounds like you've got some other kind of agenda. I see from your post history that you've called people "Alexia Fanboys" and also inquired about the WASP setup for another member.

Sorry I tried to help you.

I had a problem getting my WASP done, and was just sharing some info.

On the #4 issue, once again I was just sharing some info, which Nelson confirmed.

Thanks for reading my posting history.

The "Alexia Fanboys" seemed to enjoyed the pictures I shared with them.

jap - I say this with the utmost respect: do the WASP yourself. I can help you over the phone if you want. I absolutely love doing this stuff.

Thanks for your offer.

My WA dealer did mine three years ago.

I learnt alot watching him, and helped with the WASP on my friend's Sashas

Cool. I'm fussy when it comes to these things and prefer to read and do it myself. I watched and learned and then tweaked. :).

I will say this....the Wilson Alexia manual is the benchmark for others to follow. Wonderful detail and descriptions. Why the big secret (Sonus Faber are you listening?). Isn't getting the most out of our speakers what it's all about? Wilson makes it easy for anyone to setup their Wilson speakers properly. Just read the darn manual and experiment.

I agree that the WA manuals have great set up info.

I had my speakers very close to the final position before my dealer did the WASP.

Problem is the WA warranty- Requirement No. 2. The product must have been professionally installed by the Wilson Audio dealer that sold the product to the customer.

Did your dealer ever do a WASP?

Mike,

The tweeter in the Duette is not the same tweeter that is in the Alexia. The tweeter in the Alexia was first used in the Alexandria XLF (they are modified differently). This same, but also modified differently, is now in the Sasha 2. :)
