Myles, thanks for the info. It looks like Volker Lange from whom I had ordered 9 albums last year from Lutz Precision/MPS is heading this new venture, with the same duplication equipment he used for the tapes i got. I got the 6 sets of the Oscar Peterson "Exclusively for My Friends" series as well as their three classical tapes (Marimba, Gershwin Gala, and Trumpet). All outstanding in their reproduction. More recently, there have been some complaints that Lutz was not responding in a timely fashion (something I didn't have a problem with when I ordered). This new distribution channel including additional tapes from other sources should hopefully speed things.
As far as the classical titles, both the Gershwin Bernstein Columbia album and the Also Sprach Zarathustra Steinberg BSO DG album should be great. I don't know the Eterna albums (although Herman Prey is a great singer). The EMI Callas Tosca with Pretre conducting was her second recording, the first with Serafin conducting was in mono. The second has Callas into her wide wobble vibrato period and I think just about everyone (including me) thinks her first recording is the preferred one to get for her vocal quality. However, this one still has Callas's passion and wonderful fiery portrayal of Tosca and is in stereo. I read through the classical album descriptions and they all (except for the 3 Lutz/MPS SWR albums) say that the albums were the subject of Christoph Stickel’s subtle “refurbishing”. I am going to email Volker to find out more about the refurbishing process.
I'll most probably order a couple to test them out after I return from my annual London/Europe trip.
Larry
PS. With the Euro down 20%+ from last year - the tapes are a relative bargain for US residents.
