Another Friday night incident

Since I have the next two weeks off, I will run a Sunday night test. Just beer, no hard liquor. For whatever reason, I have never developed a taste for it. Besides, the cat would be upset if he couldn't have a little beer. :)

I like the exorcism suggestion. Maybe I need to exorcise some gear out, and other gear in. It never ends.

The cat is the problem.

It's makes your listening room smell like pussy.

I averted another Friday night incident today. I was in the backyard, and I noticed one of the three wires coming to my breaker box from the power pole in the backyard was broken. I called the PG&E emergency number, and they arrived in about 30 minutes. It turns out the wire wasn't broke, but burnt, and one of the hot wires was also burnt, and close to breaking. Additionally, the two hots were supporting the weight of the run from the pole to the house, and it could have broken at anytime.

That would have been a terrible Friday night incident. :)

Yes. I can just imagine it is 2AM, I am in a good frame of mind, listening to the stereo, perhaps a bit loud, and then total silence and darkness.

.....and then that evil sound of popcorn popping coming from outside and yellow and orange flickering light. Scary stuff. Glad you averted the issue proactively. Enjoy your night.

Wow Bud. Good thing everything worked out ok. That was a fire waiting to happen.

The interesting part is I never noticed anything amiss. I assume it happened a couple of weeks ago when we had a really bad windstorm come through. It did cause a lot of damage to the area. PG&E is pretty responsive now for emergency calls after that gas pipeline explosion a few years ago. They answered the phone right away, and the guy was there within 30 minutes, or a little less.

I had a Friday night incident last night. I came home from doing the grocery shopping after working all day. I haul in all of the groceries like a pack mule and turn on the TV. I notice that I have no sound coming from my AVR through the 5.1 setup. I powered down the AVR and powered it back up and the sound came on briefly, but it was distorted before it quit playing. I switched out the cable box to make sure the cable box didn't have an issue and that wasn't it. I turned the internal speakers in my Samsung TV on so at least I would have some sound until I got to the bottom of the issue and they wouldn't play either which completely had me bumfuzzled. I then disconnected the HDMI cable coming out of the DVR cable box that was going into my AVR as well as the HDMI cable that was going from the video out from the AVR into my Samsung. I connected the HDMI cable straight from the DVR into my Samsung and now I have sound out of the TV.

I had a similar incident a few weeks ago with HDMI, on a Friday no less. I couldn't get a picture on my TV from the Oppo 103. My first thought was the TV went bad. However, something made me look a bit deeper. It turns out the HDMI video circuit in my Onkyo SC5509 pre is bad, but the audio is fine. The Oppo has two HDMI output ports, so I run the best video output port direct to the TV. The other port I run to the Onkyo for the audio. This works, but now I can't use my Xbox since my TV only has one HDMI ports. I guess I need to breakdown and buy the Bryston SP3 pre-amp.

Shite! My XA30.8 left channel out just died. Right side still played music. So, I swapped left and right speaker cables and left speaker came on. [emoji35]
Any suggestion on what to do next?

This Friday night thingie is contagious.

Ok, seems like it's not the amp. It's the DAC left channel cable is loose from unplugging and plugging. LOL
