Animals

I post there when I find albums that I really think others might like or worthy of mention, however, I typically do not read others posts there. The issue is many, like yourself, just post pictures for the most part. I don't see so use a screen reading software. This is great for text but not to the point that it reads images. I really don't want to waste my time scrolling through those posts to see by chance if someone actually typed anything.

Thank you for reminding us of this! It's so easy for us sighted people to fail to include text. On Twitter, I see people using Alt Text with images more and more.

You should check Steven Wilson remixes. He has done some Jethro Tull, several, including Aqua Lung, Some Yes and at least Chicago II. All of his are very good IMO.

It's almost to the point for big titles, what hasn't been remastered. I'm not sure what of those would be considered a "remix". Wilson sticks pretty much with the original song accept he has a way of making it rock a bit more or bring out the emotion. I've not heard any remix/remaster that has put me off like the Animals 2018, but we've been down that road, LOL

Does anyone know of any other remixes of classic albums out there? I have some remasters but the best one falls pretty short of the Animals remix. Thanks in advance.

Since we are talking about Pink Floyd, I have a story to tell. Way back in the early seventies I was at Tampa Stadium watching Deep Purple support their Machine Head album. BTW, some little band from Texas opened for them, ZZ Top. Anyway, they made an announcement for the upcoming shows and one of them was Pink Floyd. I had not heard of them yet and not sure if "Money" was even playing on the radio yet. My girlfriend at the time was really juiced about seeing them but I didn't really care to. She said "if you won't take me I will find someone who will." In the next few weeks I must have listened to DSOTM at least 40 times and was quite happy to go to the show. They only had the west stands open and the stage was was pulled up very close to the stands. They had towers of speakers along the top of the stands so they could do the quadraphonic thing. I don't think there were 8000 people there. It was quite the show, I wound up seeing them 6 or 7 times. They were my favorite band for many years until Waters left.

Thanks for the Yes Steven Wilson remixes tip. Very nice sonics. This was one of my favorite bands of the 70's. Listening now reminds me of what a great bassist Chris Squire was. For hits, it doesn't get too much better than "Roundabout" and "Long Distance Runaround".

I must admit not being a fan of Pink Floyd myself I actually thought this post based on its title was actually about...animals (as in the living creatures). LOL

Giving it my first listen right now. I'm halfway through Pigs (Three Different Ones). The drums and bass have much more weight... kind of too much. The percussion wood block around the 3 minute mark actually sounds like a wood block, and there's more attention on it. The snare sounds more crisp and actually cracks like it should.

But all that said, the thin drum/bass sound of the original recording brought the vocals out to the front of the mix. Which I think I like more. This is an album so engrained in my mind with countless high school smoked out car rides, it's hard to hear it differently.

Might be better for some, and perhaps someone new to the album. But I'll stick with the CD version I bought in the 90's.

I love the new Animals. I have the high res download since my turntables are all packed up in preparation for the upcoming move. I think it is fantastic, and Animals is my favorite Pink Floyd album!

I also think the remix sounds great! It is most definitely different than the others but in my mind I treat it as not to be a comparison but just something different that you should be able to enjoy both. It would be like the added different takes that are included in the recent Beatles box sets.

Not about the vinyl reissue, but the Pink Floyd Animals and other PF shows. Our niece's husband is an architect and partner in Stufish, the famous entertainment architects based in London. They have done hundreds of big name shows over the years, and got started when PF wanted some inflatable props for their Animals show in 1974. Here is their website, and if you look at the Mark Fisher Legacy section (he is the late founder of Stufish) and how he started with the inflatable animals for PF which led PF to hire his firm to do the Wall show a couple of years later.

Stufish – Stufish Entertainment Architects

Lots of very interesting shows they have designed.

I just spent some interesting time on their website. When I get more time I will check out all the bands. Thanks for the info, those folks are killer. Cheers.

My vinyl copy of Animals arrived last week. to start off, Record Industry should be ashamed of the pressing quality - all over both sides, side two especially there are ticks and pops that during the quieter bits are annoying and should not be there. see discogs and unfortunately this release is littered with pressing issues.

Musically, it seems to have become beautified compared to the stark, bleak, lean almost grey sounding original mix. Yea bass is a little fatter, Wright's keyboards are more in front which is pretty good. Gilmour's guitars don't seem to be as nasty and leading edge as on the original.

Overall B - I prefer the original pressing and mix.

Sorry you don't enjoy it as much as some of us do. I just listened to it again and think it is really bad@$$. I grew up on Pink Floyd and can't believe how much I enjoy this remix. Favorite line from the album ( or one of them ) "bus stop rat bag, ha ha charade you are."

I was just at the Battersea Power Station last week. Amazing transformation of that building.

It's been in the works for some time. Can't wait to get back to London to see it completed. Did you see the new US Embassy which is pretty close the Battersea Power Station. Our time share in London is about a block away from the old Embassy at Grosvenor Square in Mayfair. The new one looks quite spectacular. My daughter's old firm (OLIN) did the landscape architectural work on the new Embassy. The two projects should make the walk along the South Bank even nicer.
