The Viella, I know there are a few here that have heard it & most would have at the shows. What do you think of it & is it really a player in the top of the field, remembering I did say in the top of not "the top". Opinions appreciated.....:wave:
 
Indeed Sharky, Yes one of the finer sounding TT combos out there--my own observations --only at Shows not in private settings, is that sonically it is superior to most

of the so called metal based tables I've come across such as Acoustic Solid, Triangle Art, Brinkmann/etc--it just seems more body to the music than those aforementioned

It'd easily be my choice over those,together with the upper echelon Kuzma's--not fan of the basic model.

Bruce, will do, thanks for that. Hunting indeed, was hoping for one of those "how do you like them apples" moments.

I'll add a big shout out for the AMG table - excellent at detail retrieval and speed stability , very saturated images in a big soundstage. Also right in line with Bruce on Kuzma - in terms of turntable/tonearm design - my vote for amongst the best out there. I own three of his 4Point arms (!) and have never heard a better tonearm. A true genius.
 
I listened to my AMG V12 yesterday. A couple of thoughts:

- in this league of tables just about everything is right ... No limiting factors...so cartridge, cartridge setup, tonearm cable, quality of recording will impact sonic differences when comparing to other top tier tables (IMHO).

- It does have a slight warmer (to me organic, musical) signature compared to my Clearaudio Innovation (when it was running the same cartridge...Benz LP-S). The combination of v12 and LP-S is a great match ... When I listen to this combo I stop assessing what I am hearing and get lost in the music.

- Superbly engineered and easy on the eyes. Built like a tank and wonderful record clamp and cuing device.

- not the easiest to set up (eg belt on to platter, leveling screw access)

- Has the backing of Musical Surroundings which to me is a HUGE plus. Joe runs their customer service and has helped me countless times with speed and a smile.

Love my AMG viella w/V12 arm and Allaerts cart.
I would suggest an excellent base eg. the HRS M3X.

If we're thinking of the same Joe, he's left Garth and is now with VAC.
 
I can't compare to Brinkmann TTs, but when I was shopping I settled on AMG but first had to get local dealer to carry it. My dealer, who has setup a lot of tables, really likes the AMG, and compared it sonically at least to an SME20, knocking on the door of the SME30. Also, once setup, very stable and not fussy. I run mine with a Benz LPS and have the HRS platform under it. Another fellow heard the AMG at the dealer while his VPI Classic 3 was in for service and commented the AMG "wiped the floor with my VPI".

There are several nice tables in this price range, but the simplicity of the AMG design and the level of engineering fit & finish makes it a very high value table. I run mine with the 12" AMG tonearm. Adjusting azimuth super easy with the AMG tonearm, though setting tracking force requires a few iterations to get it just right.

Supposedly, the AMG was designed for the LPS, but that just a rumor I heard from Garth. Certainly the two work superbly together.
