Terms of Service agreement

Terms of Service:

1. The Cloud Drive Service

1.1 The Service. The Service provides storage, retrieval, management and access features and functionality for your photos, videos, and other files ("Your Files"). By using the Service, you are directing us to store, manage, and provide access to Your Files on your behalf.

Question

There is a great deal of at issue of the government and companies having the right to pilfer through your data.

Does the terms of service subtly suggest that you are granting Amazon the right to provide access to your files to whom it sees fit and permitting them to do it in your name. Is this a crude low level form of are giving them an equivalent of a power of attorney over your personal files?

On the surface, "provide access to Your Files on your behalf" seems benign? Or, is this carte blanche access. What I am not reading is defined scope of access - a limitation.

I'm thinking local storage [mycloud/hard drives, etc] where you have full control is the ideal. Once you upload your data, you are no longer in control.

You raise valid concerns. One that veils clandestine intent. As a private cloud service provider, I have real concerns about the public cloud services space and we remain hesitant to hybridise our solution offerings at this time for the reasons you suggest. The dark clouds are growing....

Personally, I am conscious about what materials I choose to store on public cloud services. The problem is also one of vendor technology alignment. When it comes to devices, most are unaware of the content that they are actually providing / "storing" on Google, Amazon, Apple and Microsoft servers.

When it comes to these big four, I have my personal evil scale and would rate in that order.

Who do you trust most? They are USA companies after all for which the NSA and its 5-eyes allies have probes set on watching in on all of these data streams in the name of National Security. BS!

Anything you store out there is not protected, whether they claim it is or not. And they will data mine it at will no matter what the terms of service are.

Save your stuff to a USB stick and carry it in your pocket encrypted. Otherwise, all those nude selfies of yourself will be out there for us to see :)

I don't use the cloud for anything period, even a mundane benign list of records I have. In my opinion it is the stupidest thing ever and the most dangerous. It's risky enough that any company you deal with may be using the cloud and putting your info out there. (That's the bit that upsets me to no end). I don't know that it helps, but what I do with amazon is delete my card info after every purchase. I also got them to deal me out of cloud storage offers, free music downloads, etc.(You have to call them and write them to get them to do it, but it's easy and quick).

Anyone who thinks Clouds are safe and secure, has their head in the clouds :)

Nothing anyone puts out there on their own or by another party is never safe or secure and can never really be taken back. That's why I thought it was comical when all the celebs that took naked selfies of themselves were so surprised that they all got leaked. (by the way, I saw them all and they were really nothing to be concerned with hehe)

I won't even login to my Bank site, my 401K or other financial sites, nothing. I also refuse to get all my updates and transaction confirmations by email and force them to do their own job and send everything via US Mail.

Think about it. How many cached pages of your personal info is floating around on various PCs you login to, and all the Email servers and such. There are countless pages of everything you do just waiting to be hacked and exploited.

I had my identity stolen once (they gave it back once they saw I was nobody :)) and I refuse to do anything to help it happen a 2nd time.

The internet is a great tool when used properly. It is NOT a place to store and stream all your personal info. If you don't mind all your stuff getting stolen or shared without your knowledge, by all means put your life out there, but if you want it to remain private, keep it to yourself.

This also includes the fact that every Smartphone Picture people post of their family and children have the GPS coordinates embedded into them so if someone can see the pic, all that is needed is Rt Click Save Image As....and then open the pic up with any Photo Editing Software and zero in on exactly where to abduct a child or harass a family. I find it hard to believe just how much of ones life people are willing to put out there for the world without a half a second thought as to the possible consequences.

Just my 3 cents and I am sticking to it.

Data stored on your own hard drive in your own house isn't secure from hackers so what makes anyone think something stored in a "cloud" is going to be secure??

Nothing is 100% safe from getting hacked. Unfortunately, I have to get my statements electronically or I end up paying $12 per month for them via US Mail (waiting for that to be hacked too). I have not had a problem (knock wood), but that doesn't mean it's safe. One thing though is that in spite of the fact that nothing is 100% safe in this regard, my Credit Union has better security than any bank. Plus I do not have access to bill paying or any electronic withdraw function on my accounts.
I still write checks to pay all my bills and mail them and that is the way I have always done and will always do it.
