Apologize if you've already had this discussion I apologize. I know it is a difficult policy to police and monitor. Would be done by members and, if seen, reported to the moderator. I also recognize that it may also be difficult to recognize. I've seen it abused by a manufacturer for product advertising. Not a good situation. Based on what I've seen on another forum, I am totally opp9sed to it's use. Best.

Just so I’m clear, you’re asking about people using AI to respond or pose questions?
 
Thank you for your quick response. Your input is essential and critical to this thread. Yes to your questions. Also to generate material for new threads. Or advertise. Or post computer based equipment reviews. Or .....? I don't know how one would separate when it is allowed and when it's not. Maybe you can suggest ways that you find acceptable and not compromise the spirit / intent of AS. That being, I assume, human generated discussions and exchange of ideas and opinions.

Using AI to help form a question or an answer is fine by me. I’m not anti-AI. If someone used AI to ask or answer a complex question, I think it’s reasonable. Used as a data source, I think it’s fine, but one should keep in mind that especially at this time, AI is far from infallible and its data should be verified.
 
AI has it uses and limitations.

I had someone make an offer to be on non-hifi audio business the other day and I could tell much of it was AI generated. My response to him: if he is unable to communicate with me on without the help of AI, I don't want to do business with him.

I think it's kinda the same here: no one expects people to spend hours writing posts.

No one expects it to be worded or spelled correctly.

Just share your thoughts and opinions from your heart - no need for AI - and all is good.

I see it a lot of this in business - people using AI to create business deals and structures - especially the legal part - and it is usually at least 50% factually incorrect.

Sort of like asking AI for hifi advice....

OK Mike, I respect your stand on this. Thanks for clarifying. I'll stop calling out suspected AI-generated content. ;)

Oh it’s fine to call it out too. What I was thinking was using AI for something technical like tracking force on cartridge with a particular arm and table. Maybe AI would find posts where the users suggest using the higher recommended number of something.
 
I use AI every day at work, doing executive summaries of meetings and for engineering suggestions and solutions. I think in a forum it should be limited and depending on the platform. Most common public AI platforms are garbage.
 
AI can be a tool. It really saved me yesterday if you've read my post on Aurender and Spotify. AI found help I may not have been able to find on the Aurender website if I looked.

It does make mistakes. As example when I first downloaded he Spotify app I had to use AI to find where settings were. It first tried to help me using the old version. When I told it what I was seeing though it immediately realized the mistake and got me on the right track.

I have seen some posts here recently that sounded a lot like AI and had me wondering. One thing you pick up on if you use AI is how the responses sound and how it asks questions to keep the conversation going.
 
I want nothing to do with it. I have a brain, knowledge gained over the years, personality, thoughts and opinions. I'm human.. When I have questions about anything I'd rather speak with another human.

That's one of the problems. The line becomes blurred. What is complex? You don't know what is human or what is AI. Maybe it is not an issue on AS to date. Sorry if I mistakenly hollered wolf.

Agreed. As stated above, I may have inappriately cried wolf. Tech data is fine. But I have seen it abused on another audio forum. Maybe that was an outlier. I hope so. I still think it is appropriate to report AI in certain instances. Best.
