I’m looking at the Teac 701T to feed into my Esoteric NX05XD. But this unit only has a coax output I was under the impression that AES has always been superior. Should this be a deciding factor? I think for the money this transport looks like a winner except that it’s missing a AES output. Thoughts and opinions please

SPDIF is the protocol for both, and TOSLink. Each has pluses, and minuses, and quality of information. Electrical/optical signals with several differing methods of transmission, and methods of preventing corruption of that signal.

So you would have to try individually.

Technically speaking, AES (XLR) is best for longer runs and where noise is an issue. But If the distance is short, say, less than 6 feet, Coaxial (RCA or BNC) works equally well.
