Abyss vs Focal Utopia

I cannot even imagine a headphone that requires a speaker amplifier. Wouldn't that amount of power, no matter how the headphone is design, be bad for your hearing. I mean, can you imagine sitting in between your speakers with them on both sides of your chair... isn't that pretty much what these cans are doing?

Well most people, sane people that is use the volume control, and protect their ears :D

Guess I'm in the minority here but I tend to like dynamic driver headphones over the planar models.

I own both Sennheiser 800S and Audeze LCD-4’s. I like the sound of the LCD-4’s but the combination of weight and poor ergonomic design prevents me from keeping them planted on my head.

I considered replacing them with Utopia’s. However I’ve been told they are similar to HD-800’s but lack the big sound stage. I suppose I’ll keep the Audeze phones.

I wanted to buy the Focals from my Naim dealer for reasons of convenience and economics.

I highly recommend Abyss if you ever have a chance to try them. I wear my Diana Phi's for hours and hours with zero fatigue. They are fairly light weight but sound quality and sound stage are very much world class competing with the best of the best. I also like that they are American made!
