On Sunday, I saw “A Night With Janis Joplin”. I had a great seat, third row center. Wow, what a show! Kacee Clanton’s last performance as Janis. Wow did she deliver. I never saw someone put their heart and soul into it to that extent. Man, does she have pipes! The actresses that played Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Bessie Smith and Etta James (all major influences on Janis) had phenomenal voices too. It was a memorable evening!

Janis Joplin was one of the first concerts I ever attended back in the fall of '68. The Grande Ballroom one of the great rock venues of that era.

Hi Jim,

Wow, I would have loved to see the real Janis Joplin in concert. That must have been very special. You are a lucky man!

Ken I was about 19 at the time and didn't realize how different she was from many of the acts of that timeframe.

Her music was really unique in that it was so deeply rooted in the Blues. Watching the show took me to a different time and place. I often wonder what it would have been like if Joplin, Hendrix and Morrison were still around. They would probably be getting excited for the 50th anniversary of Woodstock in 2019. I know I am.

What a list! It’s like a who’s who of Rock & Roll. Did you see many concerts there?

I love going to concerts at Bethel Woods, the site of the original Woodstock festival. I love the history. They have the Woodstock Museum there, which is really cool. I’ve seen Santana; Crosby, Stills and Nash; and John Fogerty there. It’s quite a venue.

Unfortunately I was working afternoon shift at the time so I couldn't get off to see too many shows. Not a bad list for those 15 months. The years 67-9 were when it was at its peak.
