A man after my own heart....horns, tubes and vinyl from Jeff Catalano

Mike that one LP Jeff said he would take above all others is the David Bowie Honky Dory. On that DR range list I provided on the other thread, that LP measures an avg of 12 Interesting choice. ps: man those tall speakers 1400 lbs ea. wow.

Chris - I wonder if that website is something digital guys or analog guys check? I would guess digital, since I had a hard time finding many sonically bad vinyl (LP) albums listed. You?

I was just talking to a friend earlier today about how those who are not audio enthusiasts think of us as insane. We place great importance and value on certain things that non-believers simply have no clue about our attraction and the satisfaction of ownership. This video is a classic example of our commitment to something larger than ourselves, something that consumes us in a way like no other, and leaves many scratching their heads and thinking of us as ready for a straight jacket. I believe one must be an audio enthusiast to fully understand this presentation and the subtleties of what was said. I think there is a little bit of all of us, some more than others, in this video. I really enjoyed watching it. Thanks for posting.

I do know a few digital and analog guys that do visit it when they are looking for a album just to see if it has been added. So far the LP's that I have all have decent DR numbers. Of course adding a DR rating would require a DR measurement program/device that gives reliable ratings.

Catalano says SS is unlistenable, no music ..

one mans Euphoria/anathema thingy ..

I like Jeff a lot, and his rooms at shows are almost always a highlight for me, and I appreciate his musical attitudes. cool dude all the way around.

that said, a few times his Cessaro speakers had a tilted up treble I did not care for......but to condemn all Cessaro's for that would be wrong of me. and it's also wrong for Jeff to generalize about all solid state, even though he is not alone in those feelings. maybe what he meant to say was that he had not heard solid state portray music properly to his tastes.

I get the impression that's what he meant Mike and i have heard enuff bad from all genre of amplfiers and all things audio in general that i dont play into such comments too much.

Btw , he did mentioned ML stuff , My early ML9 amplifier was matched for sonics by my Technics high powered reciever many decades ago , i still carry that with me when i see ML stuff .. :)

At the pointy end, good audio can be had through both SS and toobs different strengths and weakness for sure, no clear winner in my books.

Regards

Jeff's one of my favourite guys in audio to talk with and to listen to the LPs he pulls for shows. Truly passionate about the music and can set up a fantastic sounding space in a crapshoot of a hotel room. Thx for posting the link.

I can appreciate his passion and the type of musical presentation he prefers. I am in my 70's and came from the time of low watt amps and high efficiency speakers. A lot of that stuff was band limited and shined a big light on the midrange. A very pleasant presentation. To each his own. We all play god with our preferences.
