... I wonder if there such a society down her in Dade County.
I would check the audio society listings at Stereophile.com and Audiogon.com for South Florida listening clubs. However, if none are listed, why not start one? Our Suncoast Audiophile Society (formerly the Tampa Bay Listening Society) migrated over to Meetup.com a couple years ago, and our active membership has doubled since then! In fact, as evidenced by yesterdays turnout, we're getting too large for serious listening. Meetup is a social network that aggregates groups with a common interest, thus very well suited for finding audiophile brethren, and the cost is very reasonable, considering the features (and safeguards) offered.
Re the meeting... I was very pleased that Mike could attend, though, as mentioned, serious listening was a challenge with 80+ dB of background "audiophile chatter!" Unlike Mike (with his incredible dedicated room/system), my setup is in my family room, with inherent acoustic challenges. We recently replaced the carpet with wood floors, and my ML Summits were not fully "dialed in" yet for the new acoustics. However, attendees gave me some honest feedback re some upper midrange harshness, and a bit of bass bloat, and I'm currently tweaking the Summits rake angle and overall positioning for a smoother response.
As for women, we actually had a handful of spouses/S.O.'s in attendance, and some of them were actually listening!
