Well guy's, I just had a friend ask me for my opinion on speakers to match with his 20wpc Almarro tube amp.
No horns tho. The only ones I could come up with are the Living Voice and the Zu speakers.

Any others come to mind?

Thx

Kerry

No horns seems to leave out a lot. Looking forward to seeing what other responses we get.

there are a number of good speakers in this efficiency range. a few that come to mind are:

omega speaker systems
voxative
deVore
tekton design
tannoy GR serries

however... my almarro a318b, 18 wpc amp loves viking acoustics speakers. the synergy is just there. the britton iii model fits the no-horn requirement.

all other current viking models are "horns" -- but note, these are not compression loaded horns -- there is an air gap between the horn and high frequency driver making the horn also a bass port... all the goodness of horns without any of the shoutiness typically associated with them. i rate them highly.

The Lansche 3.2 are 92 db.

My Lansche 4.2 are even 95 db, but they’re not an impulse purchase.

I've had the same issue before. For dynamic drivers that are SET compatible:

DeVore Fidelity Orangutan (not Gibbon series)
Zu Audio (not a good match with Almarro - I tried it)
Audio Note - colored to my ears and require corner placement, but for some amazing
Voxativ - expensive, but well made
Trenner & Friedl
Horning Euphrodite
Daedalus
Pure Audio Project or Spatial Audio - open baffle is up to taste, but they are efficient because of it

VSA used to have a high efficiency speaker, not sure now. But none of the big, more SOTA cabinet guys will work with those amps.

I would expect the persona 9H could play well. I heard the 7f playing with the watt meter only touching 40watts on peaks thru the new Anthem amp and levels were realistic. the 9h adds 2 powered 8" woofers 93 db efficiency and room correction.

Bigger sized Fyne Audio and Tannoys.
That said back when I had 93 dB Tannoy Kensington SE and 25 - 35 Watts/ch tube amps, I rock pretty loud, and there were times when that wasn't enough power. The need for more power went away completely above 70 - 90 Watts / ch, which would equate to 99 dB / Watt speakers on a 20 Watts/ch amp - e.g. Westminster GR :weird:

20 Watts / ch would be fine with more moderate level and/or simpler music.

I would say 93db efficiency is in the low side for 20 watts. But a lot also depends in on the impedance. A 2 Ohm 95dB speaker will not be a great match with tubes I'd say. A stable impedance might be more important then pure high efficiency.

Stenheim does good with tubes I think.

Cube Audio are one of the nicest finds here during the recent year.
