In what position should the rear switch of my Big 7 be in for a 6A3? Same as a 2A3?

I never understood how you could substitute two different tubes with two different heater voltages and use them on the same heater voltage setting.

I haven't tried the 6A3 or 300B yet.

Would they be on the 45 setting or the 2a3 setting?

I have some Gold Lion 300B's I was going to use in an audio note kit amp. Would they work?

Sorry I missed this before:
Try them on the 2A3 setting and if they dont work, then go to 45 setting. Technically 2a3 is the correct setting, but some guys with older L7s say they work better for them on the 45 setting. My Dac is newer (Sept) and I detect no SQ difference for the 6A3 tube, so I use in 2A3 setting. Have not tried a 300b. The very latest dacs will possibly have 3 circuit settings, ie 2a3/45 and optimized 300b, ie 5v.

Let me repeat again, several people have stated clearly that the "cheap" 6A3s beat the WE Replica metal base Psvane 101d tube, saying the 101d is more thin. The 6A3 seems to be the best value for money play in B7 land. The overall champ from at least one person is the Sophia Electric Carbon Princess 300b 2.5v (a 2A3 replacement tube, retailing for $525 with a month guarantee). Many are waiting to use the new Elrog 300b tube and the holy grail WE vintage 101d (tennis ball globe). SFox has the ST shape vintage WE 101d with the WE 422a recti and is most impressed by that combo. Other great 5v rectis are reportedly, the Phillips metal base GZ34, Mullard fat bottle GZ37, GEC U52 and of course the WE274b/422a. The stock Shu Guang 274b is great value for money as its a very solid/capable performer. http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?32378-Lampizator-Level-7/page9

Apparently the circuit auto-balances based on total watts.

Heater voltage is normally fixed. I realize the filament transformer must have at least 2 taps on it that are switchable for two different heater voltages, but a 2A3 and 6A3 have quite different heater voltage ratings.

Do you think that the 6A3s should not be used in the Big 7 or they are being run improperly?

I certainly can't tell you that because I'm not privy to the schematic to see how the heater voltage is being implemented. I'm just curious and I don't want to insinuate the tubes aren't being run correctly.

Understood. I wasn't trying to get you in trouble! I just thought maybe you had additional insight.

Fred??

LOTS OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN USING THEM AND FOR MONTHS NOW.Some people prefer them in the under heated setting...
