28's

Dewey,

Tell me how your 28BSST2's are sounding. I need to know.

Hi all,
I would like to ask you guys whether there is any feature to distinguish a 28B SST from an SST2 model. Would it all be only in the power button as mine shows 28B SST? So if I do upgrade to the SST2, I should know whether I got the real deal.
I just downloaded the manual for the 28B SST2 from the website and looking at the photograph on pg 3, the power button shows 28B SST while the line schematic on pg 8 shows SST2.
Hope you guys or James can chime in to clear up the confusion. Thanks in advance.
J.

Hi J

The 28B's have always been SST2 designs. The only change was when we went to a new power supply transformer and some capacitor changes on the circuit boards about 2 years ago.

James,
Many thanks for the quick reply and clarification. I guess the changes you mentioned of made 2 years ago would not qualify as a significant upgrade and hence a step up in sounds quality. What I have looks exactly like the pics in this thread save for the handles. So I can safely say that the power button showing SST is the real deal for the SST2. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks again. J. :)

Yes, have been enjoying these babies from day 1.
Just curious to clear this up.
Cheers! J.

Esoteric K-01> Ayre K-5xeMP > 28B SST > VA The Music.

J2020,

Please tell me more about your 28B SST amps. What do you love about them?

Hi Joe,

The most important aspect of the 28's is the way they synergise with the rest of my system(Esoteric K-01, Ayre K-5xeMP, VA The Music).
So, in the context of the whole system, I love the great dynamics, bass slam, airy and delicate highs, open, transparent, resolving sound and gorgeous midrange.
Apologies for not being able to comment outside my system because I really don't know how.

Best regards,
Jon.

That's great Jon, I am happy for you. I've always wondered how they'd sound on my Strads. I know others who are very happy with 28's on their Sonus Faber speakers. I was surprised how nice the 4Bsst2 sounded on Revel Studio2's. You've got me thinking. Thank you!

Not to forget the wonderful instrument body and tonality, holographic soundstage, speed, more "there there", PRAT and musicality.
Lots of head bobbing and toe-tapping. :)

Wow!

I need to get an audition. Thank you for your thoughts.

Thanks, Joe for the kind words.
The 28's would do very well with the Strads.
Cheers! Jon.

Gary,

I feel compelled to share with you that I did purchase 28bsst2 after all to pair with my revel salon 2 and the system has never sounded better, thanks for your insight and advice.

A little annoyed at myself as over the years I have owned pass labs, conrad johnson, levinson and never a Bryston, even though it's a canadian company etc, these amps are amazing, smoke anything else I have owned, please pass on to the powers that be at Bryston that they have won over another customer or two and to keep up the good work.

These are the closest you will get to the Strads & the 2301's sound in solid state guise......
