Looking for a turntable for my setup, budgeting 1-2k, but somewhat flexible. Currently have a montille/aurieges with devore 3xl's. Been using a rega rp3 for a while, and usually listen to classical, blues, and folk with the setup. No plans for a SUT so just gonna run MM for now. Nothing particularly wrong with the Rega but going to move cross country and paring some equipment before the move and plan go shopping later. Do admit that I'm not the analytical listener, just something for fun.

I liked the classic 1 when I demoed it years ago (could've been the full ARC setup as well). To be honest though, I never fully understood the company since they have a continual mishmash of offerings, with the scout, scout 1.1, scout 2, musicdirect scout special. Is there a particular difference between all these variations?

There still might be a few Classic 1's around. They emailed us about 3 weeks ago and said they had one last batch.

The 103 is a better cart, and it would be worth getting a sut to make it work...
nothing wrong with the 110 if you want though.

With that much wrapped up in Shindo amplification, I'd push the TT budget up to a WT Amadeus. I know a few years ago this table was used quite a bit to demo Shindo, LM, etc. at Pitch Perfect in L.A. I've owned one for a few years with no desire to look elsewhere.

I love my GTA, so I would imagine the Simplex is a great performer. I also find the Merrill Gem Dandy/Jelco 750 to an interesting option in that price range. Neil carries JA Mitchell as well. Perhaps you could ask him about that option, as another alternative.

How easy is maintaining a well tempered? Don't mind some upkeep but I'm not a huge tinkerer either. I'm imagining the belt is easier to deal with than it looks.

According to those who have went from Simplex to Amadeus,( Well Tempered Forum at Audio Circle ) you will get better build quality and a 10.5" tonearm of course. Yes, it also sounds better as well according to those who have upgraded to the Amadeus. In regard to the belts, they're semi-delicate, but you can literally DIY dozens for a few bucks. They're a fairly common 0.004 mm poly thread. If you're not up for DIY, Mike Pranka (the distributor) will send you 3 or 4 extras for a modest fee. I would suggest checking out the Well Tempered Forum at Audio Circle. I'm sure a lot of your questions will be more easily answered there.

cool, will definitely check it out

I would go with the Pioneer PLX 1000. Shindo with idler/direct drive usually a good choice.
Do you have any experience with the pioneer? tempted as I don't have a lot of records, and saving 1-2k would buy a lot of them. Seems to get somewhat mixed reviews but i kind of expected it as a non-hifi approved deck.

Yes...
Exclusive P-3, one of the best TT in audio history.
For example:

Denon DL-103 only for heavy arms!
Denon DL-110L high output MC is nature cart for automatic Denon turntables.
For example Denon DL-61F:

what does that mean for the dl-110l? I don't plan on getting a SUT so the 103 is out.
