Taiko Audio Olympus Music Server

Do tell more, how was the sound before and how is it now?

I´m on the fence of getting a Taiko, I saw the upcoming Olympus...but the price is crazy.

I´ve listened to the Pink Faun, but never heard the Taiko.

I got the pricing from the company and.....damn.

Still cheaper than the Wadax.

This is a subscription model in disguise.

Product 1 MSRP $100
Buy P1. Pay $100.

Product 2 MSRP $200
Buy P2. Pay $100 plus trade in for $100

Product 3 MSRP $300
Buy P3. Pay $100 plus trade in $200

Of course, an owner can decide not to buy into the newest/best (after all, what can a $$$$ server do that a $$$$ x 2 can't?). But owner may feels that he needs to upgrade because nobody wants yesterday's tech. In that case, it becomes similar to paying for a $$$$ subscription.

What’s your point? That it is expensive? Yes, we know that.

The fact that they are giving people 100% retail value for their Extreme trade-in is significant. Not many companies do this.

You obviously missed my point. What I said that what the company is doing is it akin to paying for a subscription. Many companies have moved toward a subscription model where you pay X every year (as opposed to buying a new version every three years or so). That results in a more consistent cash stream. Like you said, not many audio companies do this full cost trade-in thing, so my point is that what this company is doing is a clever way of creating a more consistent revenue stream.

I see. I don't know what other audio companies do this (not saying there aren't) but it does make sense for the company and the consumer, assuming the consumer is interested in (and can afford to keep up with) the newest technology.

Yes, but in a subscription model, if one stops paying - one loses access to the tech. In this case, one can keep the Extreme without paying another dime.

Bingo.

Evidently now upgrading product is somehow considered a subscription model. I guess car manufactures have been doing "subscription" by coming out with improved models for decades and none of us knew it.

Don't you know the way of the internet forums?

Coming out with a new model and NOT offering a fantastic trade in is greedy.

Coming out with a new model and going above and beyond to take care of your existing customers with a 100% trade in is now subscription based greedy.
