Aaron Copeland: Billie the Kid, Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Andrew Litton.

I am a very infrequent listener to classical, but I enjoy Aaron Copeland. I had a fellow visit last week to hear the Alsyvox Botticelli speakers. I’ve never met anyone as passionate and knowledgable of classical music. He knew symphonic works like I know DSOTM. He’d read comments that I prefer dynamic, powerful, melodic pieces if I have to listen to classical so he prepared his playlist to include a lot of music I might have heard, but had no idea the best performance / conductor/ etc. He could say, for example “listen for the organ, it comes in on the left, just after the piccolo”. It was really a pleasure to listen to classical music for 4.5 hours — easily a record for me. I am going though the playlist again, but this time listening through all movements.

Drive by Bela Fleck
Traveler by Jerry Douglas
Skip, Hop and Wobble by Jerry Douglas, Russ Barenberg, Edgar Meyer
No Room for Squares by Hank Mobley (Rudy Van Gelder edition) Interesting to me there are high Res versions of this album, I compared and preferred the Rudy Van Gelder edition at 44.1k. More interesting than just sound quality, the Van Gelder edition the musicians seemed closer and not as spread out on the sound stage, but I preferred the more live sound of the 44.1k, the high res seemed smoothed over for lac of another way to put it. The comparison was from Tidal..
Soul Station by Hank Mobley , same versions available as mentioned above.

"Though technically considered a studio album, Heavy Load Blues was recorded live in the studio at The Power Station New England on analog tape, utilizing vintage guitars, amps and other equipment to capture an authentic sound"

Quite the background to this “new” album. Sound quality is superb. Great songs too.
